I was looking into getting a Swift as my first heli. Then a friend offered me a TSK that wasn't completely built, but had all the parts. He also has a MA X-cell. He doesn't have time to fly anymore, and both helis are 10 yrs old!

The price is right on the TSK...free. If I end up going Swift, I would probably be doing it within the next couple months. I'd love to be able to say it's a Finless Swift  , as well as contribute the parts for some build vids. So now I have a choice between a free TSK or an $800+ Swift.

Now for some questions: I hear TSK is outta business, so I'm wondering if there are even parts for it? :dontknow Plus, it's pretty darn old. How well could it fly compared to newer birds? Is it worth the effort to build it?

Hey George,

Wow, now there's a heli name you dont hear much anymore TSK.

I used to fly TSK's many years ago now and truly loved them, their build quality and engineering was first class. I had two Black Star Super Kaisers (top of the line 60's) and one Five Star. All metal constructed heli's rotor, the rotor head, side frames and then a nicely moulded fibreglass canopy. Excellent machines but expensive in their day.

However the company never really kept up with market demand, eg. newly designed machines and decent pilots to show them off. Hence they soon disappeared, not to be seen again.
They still make large industrial size machines to my knowledge now, we're talking large water cooled engined heli's.

The original distributer in the UK still has a few spares, but supplys are running low.

Flying wise they flew well, perhaps not quite as 3D'able as todays current crop of machines but still very capable. They would fly F3C type manouvers much better than most machines on the market thats for sure.

All this though doesn't really answer your question and in this case I'd have to say go for the Swift, parts are readily available and cheap to.
The TSK I feel would make an ideal machine if you were into your scale, eg. a model that you less likely to crash by trying new things with to further your flying skills.

COOL Bob ya got a sponsor!

I hope the build is from the kit and not the ARF one. I hate spending extra on something then having to break it down to make sure it was put together right. No insult intended to Century but I am only comfortable knowing the machine inside and out before flying it. I guess it comes from my scratch built and highly kit bashed plank building.

As far as setup goes for my planned Swift, performance per dollar is key. I understand going cheap at first will likely cost more in the long run, but I don't want to get too crazy. This is my first heli, so an extreme 3D setup is not necessary. I'm still reading/researching different setups, and I'd like to get it right the first time for as little $$$ as possible. So far:

GY401/9254 combo is an easy choice.
Emoli seems like a great value.
Neu 1907/1910 are very popular and cost around $180. Has anyone tried the Century 600 Plus (http://www.centuryheli.com/products/elec_motor/elec_motor.html?currentid=345)? It has a special introductory price of $80!
CC45HV is popular and looks like the right choice. Anyone know about the Century Electron ESCs (http://www.centuryheli.com/products/elec_motor/esc.html?currentid=346)? Again, very cheap and made by Century.
I'm lost when it comes to cyclic servos. So many choices! I don't need the fastest, just something I won't outgrow for awhile. :dontknow
Finally, is a BEC really necessary?

I plan on pairing this with a JR7202 or Futaba 7CHP. Possibly a 9303/9CHP if I have any money left over after building the Swift. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Help a newbie out!

The Century 600 Plus/Z30 has been getting some great reviews I think if I was you I'd check into it closer. I think it would be a better way to go for you. The Electron ESC's have been getting mixed reviews, I believe the 45HV would be the better choice just in case you want to go high voltage in the future. You won't be able to go over 6s on the 600 Plus/Z30 motor.

I think for servo's the Hi-tec 5475 digitals are the hot ticket, they are what I have. They are just about middle of the road maybe a little more towards the higher end. The reason I stress them is I have had countless crashes and they haven't neede a thing, some of them quite horrific crashes. Not a stripped gear yet. "Knock on wood!" Don't want to jinx myself!

I have the 9303 and I think it's great BUT it's the first computer radio I bought. Some one told me to buy the best you can in the begining cause you will never need to buy another as long as it's features don't get outdated. The person that recommended mine to me thought JR was IT so it's up to who you ask on what the recommend. 500 bux off the get go wasn't a cheap purchase though.

When I bought my 1907 the Plus was not out yet. That is what I would have bought if it was available. With that said I love the power of the 1907. Also as mentioned the Plus is getting good reviews. Either way the Swift is a ball to fly have fun.

Well I just got the Swift "kit" from Century. Antonio from Century was nice enough to donate a kit for a build video! It came with the 80A ESC and 600 plus motor with 9T pinion.

I cant wait to get started! I will start the build vids Tuesday so stay tuned :)

BTW the Flight Power packs came with a non-TP balance tap. Anyone have the pinout specs of this ribbon cable type balance tap so I can make a conversion connector to my 210 balancer? I am sure I can figure it out myself but if it is already published somewhere it will save me the time.

Hey Bob,

This page should answer your question about balance plug connections :

Bob,
Had the same problem with my 4S pack.
Flightpower do older ribbon to V-Balance conversion leads, the pinout and connectors for the V-Balance are the same as the TP 205/210 balancers.

http://www.flightpower.co.uk/acatalog/V-Balance.html

Near the bottom of the page, Classic xxS to V-Balance.

Hope that helps.

Out of interest, are you going to test the 600 PLUS on 4/5/6S??
