I am getting a lot of requests to do a Swift build video and am also interested in getting one.
Since I havent followed the Swift much I am looking for a good reccomendation on equipment to put in it.
Motor for good 3D performance?
Batts?
ESC?
Servo choices?
Thanks!
Bob
I'm running:
-neu 1910 1.5y on a 9 tooth pinion (2200 rpm on the head)
-cc45hv
-flightpower "nf" 10s1p 2500mah packs
-ms composit 550mm blades
-nhp 85mm tail blades
-century carbon paddles (10g)
-hitec 6965 servos on cyclic
-futaba 401/9254 combo on the tail
-medusa 6v bec
Must have century upgrades for a swift:
-alloy head block
-reinforced feathering spindle
-third bearing block and solid main shaft
-v3 landing gear struts
The rest of the upgrades are pretty much icing, a low profile mast collar is nice for more collective range (or you can merely grind down the stock one).
Thunder tiger greeny paddles if you want slower cyclic and more stable fff. The stock paddles are very fast, but pitchy.
The stock canopy is horrible to paint, do yourself a favor and pick up the frp one while your at it.
If it's an older kit it will have 3mm bolt hole blade grips, the bolts will bend, newer blade grips are 4mm.
With my setup I get a conservative 6.5 minutes with "holy crap" power. .

Wow this I can’t wait for and let me tell you Bob you are in for a treat. When I was setting up my Swift I found a lot of great info on Swifts over at RC-Groups. Here is a set-up post.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=503502
I frequent Swift-Tuning but it has yet to get the following that RC-Groups have. The Neu motors really have a lot of fans between the 1907 and the 1910. Emoli’s are not the power set-up but you should also consider having a review with this set-up also. The reason is that they are an awesome price providing decent power. The emoli power combination on the Swift make it attractive to a broad range of flyers.
Not hijack this thread but I am in the process of trying to put together a swift package, is the CC45 HV enough? I thought you really needed 60a continous? I would much rahter get the cheaper 45hv instead of the 85hv if it will work.
I will probabyl go with the 1907 or 1910 and start with 7s emoli.

dang I can't spell :)

Yup the 45hv is enough.
The amp rating is continous duty, it'll take bigger amp spikes.
I'd recommend a 1910 1y on 8 emoli cells with a 9 tooth pinion.
Or a 1910 1.5y with 8 emoli cells, on a 12 tooth pinion, with 515mm blades.
The 1y will have more performance, but less run time, and be harder on the batteries.
The 1907 is not very strong, pay a few extra bucks and get one of the 1910s.

I have not been following the Emoli thing... Where is a good place to get them? Home Depot or something?
Wow this thing takes full sized servos aye?
I am curious about the combo's being offered that seem way different that what you all are suggesting. The combos are a Tango 45-10 on 6s2p 3700 packs. Is this a lame combo? I saw a video of Szabo flying this setup?

Yes full size servos, I bought my single emoli cells from M2 Solutions
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=529722&highlight=M2+Energy+Solutions
but many simply buy the V28 battery pack and take it apart to get the cells from there. The beauty is a 7S 3,000 mAh pack for just under $100
Here is a video showing how to convert a V28 pack to an RC 7S pack.

The 45-10 on a 6s1p 3700 "nf" flightpower is okay.
That'd be a good middle of the road setup.
The emoli's are definitally towards the lower end of the performance spectrum, they'll only provide 45 amps before the voltage takes a dramatic nose-dive and they're heavy (100g per cell).
But they're cheap and will withstand some abuse.
Mine were great for learning basic 3d (9s1p packs), I bought mine from m2 energy solutions as well.

I'm running Align 600l motor with 9t pinion, 6s pack with CC80.
Tonns of power and can't bog the headspeed

zozie,
What size 6S pack?
Hmmm Align 600L motor thats a neat idea and cheap too ;)
Maybe the Align ESC too since I can get a combo deal on that.

Finless,
I run the align 4200, I tested it for the first time yesterday, I run it on low gov mode with +- 12 degrees. The motor is luke warm the battery is nearly dead cold and after 6 minutes I could only put 1878mah back into it. I can post pix if interested. I still want to get an 8t pinion, (thinking of the logo 10's) but not sure if I can get it with the proper gear mesh.
With this setup it's a beast and only weighs 3.8 lbs ready to fly with battery. :glasses2:
Can you pm me with some lepton info, I'm thinking of getting one. Not sure if it's woth 600bucks :dontknow

Yea sure post some pics! That pack sounds BIG for this heli but since I have never seen one in person what do I know ;)
What would you like to know about the Lepton? It is expensive but a very nice heli. I fly mine all the time and a little more than my Trex600 as I do love the POWER the thing has. I can PM you my Email address if you want to discuss more about it?

That would be nice thanx :smokin:
As fas as size goez, it hold the packs just fine. I'm running 550 carbons and the swift is just as long as a raptor 30.
3.8 pounds with 500 blades at 1950 rpm, the vertical speed of this thing is just sick.
I'm trying to get a G meter that I could fit into it. Ultimately, I wanna save some money now and eventually go 10 cells on it. I already have a long boom so I can fit 600mm blades on it. The structure of the head IMO is stronger than a Raptor30/50. The only thing I miss is the driven tail for autos, but when I burned my ESC, I had an unplanned auto and it was a charm. This thing flies really nice, I personally like it better than the Trex 600. Dunno why though. On this setup the forward speed is insane as well. If the weather's nice, I'll make a video of it. Anyway, gotta run cause I'm really busy at work checking out your Lepton vids

Zozie, Where do you find the 4200 align motor. The 600 comes with a 1620 kv motor? That seems too high. The logo 8 tooth pinion is .7 module so it should mesh ok. TimT

My LHS was nice enough to pull a motor from a 600 Kit for me :glasses2:
It is high KV but It's perfect in low gov mode.

The game has changed! Get the new Z30 from TPPacks.com. The same motor is now for sale on the Century sight as a 600plus. Cool running and more power than I expected. I've tried both 7S emoli and 6S lipoly. This is the coolest running motor I've tried yet. The esc is cool and the lipo too. The emoli runs hot to the touch but gives 5.30 mins of 3D. TimT

I would really like to see a Finless build of the Swift to compare to the Trex 600. I have read good and bad as related to the Swift, so Bob can set the record straight  .
I am looking to get a 30 -50 sized electric in the near future as I started out on nitro 30 sized machines and miss the larger size compared to my T-rex. I will always have the rex as it has it's advantages but i would just like something visually larger. I am not into wild 3-D stuff yet so the Swift could have a good cost to fun ratio for a mild flyer like me.
Also, thanks Bob for your great videos on the setup for the T-rex, they have helped me a lot.

I still have not decided...... I got side tracked as I had to build Will James' Trex 600... Now that it is done I need to build something! I am bored!
Someone send me a Swift to build with all parts. I will build it, test fly it, and send it back. It needs to be top stuff and not low end components. You pay all costs (shipping etc)... that is the deal...
I wont do a full build vid but will cover some assemblies that are important, issues I find, and corrections.
I would like to fly it for at least 2 weekends to get the full concept and flying characteristics...
Now hows that for an offer?

Bob,
I'll take you up on it if you still haven't done it by the time I get all the parts. Could be as late as April before I get everything pooled up.

April... Well I hope to have built one by then!
We shall see but I have a feeling someone else may go for thjis much earlier than April..
