I really like this heli, i have it set up with the brushless motor and it has a ton of power. But, the feel of the tail is sloppy and fast, i don't know how else to describe it.

The tail rotor as soon as i lift off seems to move away from vertical and i tighten it and it still does it.

Does anyone have a fix for the stock V2 tail? Please don't tell me I have to spend $100 on a bling tail to fix it, but if that is the only way. Is it totally worth it?

Thanks

try wrapping a piece of scotch tape around the boom, slide the TR over that, and tighten it down.

for the "sloppy" tail control: try a CF pushrod for the tail rotor servo...I heard that works great!

WOW! Thanks for the quick reply. I will try that and let you know how it worked.

Thanks

How many articles, comments and forum entries must their be before someone from Shogun/Zap/Zoom manufacturers takes note? If this were any other consumable we were buying we should all get refunds or our helis should be re-called due to a design fault. Listen...THE TAIL END OF YOUR HELI IS NOT WORKING!!! I have lost count of the failures I have had and it is never just the the tail we have to replace...the associated damage from resulting crash is killing us. I love my Zoom and my Shogun but that is because I have spent my hard earned cash on upgrading. Wake up guys....compete with the quality of others in the market and you will sell more helis. my next heli? Well lets see if this small voice is heard..I doubt it somehow......I need something that does what is says it can do (gotta go...got another tail gear box to change!

I think the bling tail is totally worth it, because I always kept spinning the bearings on my plastic ones. I tried the Microheli one (39.99) and then you can still use the Shogun blade grips, hub, etc. The Shogun stock tail just doesn't handle the high RPM of brushless motors very well.

I used to spend a lot of time on tail gearbox/boom issues. boom bends if you look at it funny, gear box cracking, etc. but now...

I have changed the tail boom to a piece of Hydrolic tubing. that baby does not bend no matter what. you can also go to a bicycle shop and get some tubing that is the correct size and much stronger, than the stock item and cheap.

I also coat all the plastic parts of the tail with epoxy (very carefully) especially the little tits on the blade holders.
taken many hits, with no damage.
do not cover the screw heads with epoxy, that is hard to get out.

you must coat the 2 halves of the gear box inside and out, being careful not to put any where the bearings go. the epoxy must form a "wrap" around the item in order for it's strenght to be utilized.

once the tail gear box is in place, I then apply another coat of epoxy to the unit, essentially wrapping it with and epoxy shell.

to keep the gear box from rotating I have drilled a small hole through the epoxy coating and the plastic & the tubing.
insert a screw and it is rock solid. havent changed the gear box in weeks and i fly 4 batteries a day (still learning too)

changing the belt is a bit of a challenge. you have to carefully break the epoxy coating to get it apart. once you get it started it breaks off pretty easily.
this is well worth the effort. my tail & gear box have survived dozens of crashes, with not even the blade holders snapping.

good luck

Thanks for the replies.

I bought a new stock tail case, put it on and it works pretty good. Actually, did my first flip and loop with it today. I think i was just comparing my Shogun to my Trex too much. But, in fast forward flight this thing flies as good as my Trex. Loops and flips are even easier than my Trex. It still feels sloppy just hovering, but for simple aerobatics it works fine.

I'm still looking to find a cheap cnc tail to get a better feel though.

I'll try and post a video of this thing flying in the next week.

I to have a shogun and a Trex , I got sick of on going tail probs spent lots of time and got it working well but when you really up the head speed to 2500 or 2600 it just shits it self and tail rebuild all over again. So my ultimate solution was to fit a standard Trex tail and I haven't had a problem since , even after many crashes its still fine no bent anything.

Thats sounds like a great idea! Can you post a picture of your tail and part #'s, I would love to have a Trex tail on my Shougun.

Thanks
