View Full Version : Anyone else think that the Sport canopy looks better than the Pro?

I've been looking around at all the canopies and seem to think the sport ones just end up looking so much better than any of the (limited amount) of Pro designs. Anyone else feel the same way? Maybe I'm just not seeing any other variants on the paint scheme?
I don't mean to say the Pro looks bad, but it is a little plain by comparison. You can see the colors of the Sport a little better and the lines look nicer. Also, I've found 3 or 4 different versions which I believe are stock, and then a few of the Canomod ones. I guess what I'm really getting at; Will the Sport canopy fit on the Pro???

I kinda like the Pro canopy better... Mainly the first pic, but they are all nice. :)

I still prefer the old XL/SE canopy. Not really a fan of the new style. I even prefer the older BeltCP/King Esky canopy profile.
The newer Align style looks like a ginormous T250.
But as long as it's not a "Century" style, s'all good.

I was refering more to the paint scheme than the actual shape. Both look nice (I absolutely hated it at first until I saw how easy they were to spot in the sky) but I like the layout of the Sport. The little stripes and checkerboard looks really cool. Seems kinda funny they'd only make one type for the Pro and three for the less thought of Sport. Maybe that's how they're doing it to sell a bunch of both? Sneaky little devils! I like it! lol

I love the sport canopies! it's the reason i am still using my two cheepo plain white, cracked plastic ones...i can't afford a pair of sport canopies, and i can't bring myself to buy those 6 dollar fiberglass hong kong ones, the paint job just looks so dumb!
I agree the pro paint job is really kinda plain, makes you wonder what align had planned would sell more, it seems most hobby shops are promoting the pro's(mine doesn't even sell sports), though the sport is a continuation of their main line, and the pro is an offshoot for more experienced fliers who want an extremely 3d capable bird... yet i just don't think i am at the level where getting one would be a good idea, i crash too much, so strength and spare part cost are major issues with me...

Hey! Those cheap-o HK special canopies are the bomb-diggity!!! lol I was skeptical at first, but they had one at a shop and they only charged $10, so I got one. Sure the scheme is plain or not so fancy, but I can SEE the darn thing way better than any of the fancy painted stock ones! Also, mine has been a lot more crash damage resistant than the stockers. They use some gnarly thick GF, so it's like armor plating for your battery! The grommets they come with are 10X better than the stock grey ones too. Not trying to pick on ya, just saying it couldn't hurt to try 'em out!
Anyways, the Sport does look like it has a slightly different shape. Not tooo sure if I'd have to dremel in out a bit to get the fit right, but I don't exactly want to go tearing up a new canopy and destroy it. I really like them because hey have a bit more going on and I think you'd get a slightly better view of them with a few different colors splashed in. If they made a Pro with different schemes, I'd be just as happy to get one instead of the Sport (less work is always good!).

Will the Sport canopy fit on the Pro???
It will, but I think it looks funny :YeaBaby:

no, the sport canopy wil not fit on the pro, i have bought the bleu-ish sport canopy(first post bottom pic) and looked for a way to fit it on my pro.
i just wil not fit, at first you have to dremel out the bottom of the canopy to make it fit but you need to get about a whole inch out of there and there is were the problem is located because the sport canopy has a hole there just like the V1/V2 canopy's.
so if you dare to get such a big piece out with the dremel you wil nee to reinforce it with carbon and epoxy or some kind because you wil only have a few millimeters of canopy left to hold the canopy in its place.
so lets say this is possible and you get the canopy to fit then the question arrises 'if' the lipo wil fit under that canopy...

You can get all the V2 canopies to fit the sport though, and they look fine! Drill a hole on each Sport side frame just below and behind the bearing block (as tight as you can get and still fit a screw head). Then use a regular screw to hold the bearing block, and use another screw from the inside of the frame to hold the canopy mount post from the new hole. Now it fits V2 canopies, which is great since I have a few of the lightning ones that I didn't want to abandon.
If you want to make your upper frame withstand crashes better, use the plastic 450 canopy posts. Also, instead of using a screw to hold the canopy post on each side, you could use one piece of threaded rod inserted all the way through so it protrudes 1cm out each side, then mount the posts. If you bend the posts when they are installed this way, they won't be as likely to break the frame since they aren't clamped on.
