Thanks...will program the BEC for that and use the step-down for the tail.

I pulled the trigger and ordered some zippy 3000 mah 6S packs for serial setup/parallel charge, mikado 13T for 3D, scorpion 4025-630. I'll be selling my 4025-1100 which is ok on 6S but the 5000 mah turnigys come down too warm for me and I'm noticing they aren't having the "pop" they used to during sustained tic tocs. I'll post my findings after the conversion. I'll try to get some temps and rpms if I can prior to conversion. I'm excited but wonder if I'll notice the increase from 835g to 1050g up front?
Edit: CC 85HV, throwing out align regulator and 7.4v 1900mah lipo (may compensate for weight increase) and getting CC pro BEC!

Good luck!!

You won't regret upgrading for all that power and longer life cycles...

Regarding those Zippy's, I noticed they are in Hong Kong. How long do they average to get over here considering customs? I also take it they are a up-standing company. The reason I ask is I have been taken before but companies over there.

If you are talking about Hobby City and use EMS shipping you will see them in 3 to 4 days. Very reliable place to buy batteries but if for some reason you get a bad on it is not worth sending it back, that said I have never got a bad one so far.

Great value packs with reliable picking.

Reports would suggest the slightly heavier Turnigy packs (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9489&aff=97114) have more pop than the lighter Flightmax packs.

Recommend selecting 10% value as 'toy parts' or 'gift' in check out.

Sounds good, I guess I will order them as soon as I get more $$$$. Just spent about $500 @ Helidirect last night, ordered the HV85, CC PRO BEC and some crash repair stuff. I also figured to get the all metal tail to help in balancing the bird out better due to the extra weight.

Again, thanks for all the good info on here!!

I think that put on your T-Rex 600 Kontronik Tango 45-07!

Not really a budget motor but the 4025-630 is very good value with great performance.

Please re-frame from using over size text in this thread, it's not pleasing on the eye and no one thinks it looks cool.

Scorpion recommends running their motors at 8Khz as it does not benefit from the higher frequencies.

While you maybe having success with this expensive motor, I created this thread for a 12s T-Rex 600 setup on a budget, as the thread tittle implies, because many pilots have families and fly on a budget. We can't all afford expensive Kontronik Tango motors, Kontronik Jazz/Jive speed controllers or Flightpower/Hyperion packs.

Thank you for your comments.

Regarding shipping from hobbycity. Of the 9 orders so far...I have gotten shipments in as little as 5 days and as long as 3 weeks. I canceled my order for 40C 5000mah batts that were backordered 2 weeks so that I can pull the trigger on going 12S! Still waiting on the shipment to come in now and getting anxious!!!

Regarding tango motor. It's good info to know that it's 30g (one ounce) lighter and more efficient. I don't mind it being posted, but I'm going the cheaper route as I have a family and a budget!!!

Edit: Ok got the new batts last night. Here's a size comparison of two zippy 3000's 40C's compared to my turnigy 5000mah 35C. There is an appreciable weight difference when holding them and the two 3000s are significantly taller when side by side. I guess dropping my battery tray to accomodate the batts shouldn't be a problem. I'm gonna run them in parallel since they are 40C with my current scorpion 1100kv then move to series when my new scorp 630 comes in!

rceccleston - This thread has been invaluable! As you know, I just made the 12S conversion this week and flew her yesterday...blow away by the difference in power. If anyone is thinking about this...just do it! You won't regret it. I also love the fact that the Hyperion can charge two 6S 3000 packs in like 15 minutes which is AWESOME turnaround time!

One question I have is, how close is your canopy to touching your main gear? Mine is extremely close and thinking about ways to get more clearance. I was thinking about simply putting a washer or two under the canopy post. Thoughts?

Thanks again for all your advice w/ the setup!

Shef,
Try stuffing a few towels inside the cano to flex it open, then warm it up with a hair dryer for a few minutes.
Then take it outside to cool off... the material will retain the new shape:thumbup:

Well done with the build.

While the 6s Turnigy 3000Mah 30/40c packs (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9489&aff=97114) state 'never charge above 2c', I still charge at 1c, as I believe charging at 2c will decrease their life cycles.

My canopy has approximately 5mm clearance on one side, it hasn't touched the main gear yet, so I'm not too worried.

I believe the hair dryer method works well.

The website actually says you can charge them at 3c.

I'm sure my packs had a safety sticker on the back like my 6s Turnigy 5000Mah 25/35c packs.

What does the safety stick says on yours??

Yep, it says 2C...odd.
I'm sure it'll charge at 2c but at cost of reduced life cycles..

When I replace these packs for 40+c with 5c charging, I'm most likely charge at 3.3c, due the 10amps limitation of my networked Hyperion EOS0610i chargers...

Man, this post is too priceless. I have read through the whole thread(30 pages) in the last two days. I have just purchased a 600 ESP combo(with the new 600M motor), I am thinking to go straight to 12s set up, but I want to ask a few questions, hope you could help me figure them out.

1, How long of the fly time you can get?No 3d, just mild sports fly.
2, I am building the bird for AP, will the stock just do fine? Or set up 12s can definately increase the performence of the heli(Since I am doing this for an AP ship, I am looking for longer fly time)
3, If I go for the 12s, do I need to change the stock main gear? How about the tail gear?(Is that how you guys call it? Sorry,English is not my first language)

And do you live in the UK? I live in sheffield.

Really appericate your post and your help.

After reading this thread I'm ready to take the 12s plung! I went to Ready Heli and was all set to order and got confused on the pinions. I'm going to use the 4025 - 630 motor and a 13tooth pinion but which one do I need

can i use this motor for 12S setup?
NEU1910H/1.5YF 680KV

I am thinking exactly about this motor too. I calculated head speed for 13T pinion and 3.7v per cell and it should be around 2300. This motor is lighter and more efficient then Scorpion.
I think from convenient point of view, it is easier to charge 10S batteries on 6s or 8s chargers. Just we need to plug JST connector to 6s and 5s balancer. In this case 1912/1Y -10S setup wins. It is funny that 12S setup - Nue1910h/1.5Y including battery from HC and motor is cheaper, than 12S setup wins in terms of budget.
