Recommend 5mm bullets minimum, however, you need an anti-spark setup with Deans.

Just ordered a trex600 :) and just wondering what battery connector to use. I have spare ec3 lying around, will it handlel the current if I get a 12S setup?
I wouldnt use anything smaller then 4mm. (I use 4mm bullet).
EC5 is a reat choice.

My 12S avg current draw is 28Amp (very hard 3D) with peaks up to 80Amp (for fractions of a second)
when flying easy (sport flying) avg current is 16Amp with peaks up to 60Amp

ec5 it is then ;). and btw, is there a "12s" motor that doesn't require any frame mods?

The frame mod is fairly simple (if you have the tools - Dremel), you don't want to choose your motor by this factor.
I have a scorpion motor (4025-630) and I love it

so i only need to cut the frame abit, It will fit in the same mountings and stuff?

Thanks alot, will check out that thread. Have been reading around in the power system threads, but it's easy to miss stuff . BTW, will the scorpion motor last me a long time? What's the life expectancy on a motor like this?

I don't recall coming across a thread about a dead motor (regardless of the brand).
mostly its the ESC that fails.

ohhh... almost forgot - the bearings tend to fail first, and when it happens - Ceramic bearings are a good investment (~$20@Boca Bearings)

what sort of pinion should i use with the 4025-630 motor?

IMO 14T (mod0.7).
Scorpion motors comes with 5mm shaft. it will be nice (not a must though) to upgrade to 6mm shaft.

I had approximately 400 flights on the 4025-630 / 12T with the original bearings before upgrading to the 4025-550 / 14T.

Both motors work very well when geared correctly, however, the 550 is now more efficient than the 630 with better gearing.

anybody know the horsepower this setup puts out on a 12tooth? I want to tweak my phoenix model.

where did you get that motor? I tried googling but can't find any shop that has it...

Compare HK40 series items (http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalog/motors/hk40/compare/?p5=436&p6=203)

Quick question about gear and CC 85HV. I have the 4025-630 with 13T pinion and 170T main gear. When i go to setup gov mode in the ESC it wont let me go above 1900 for head speed. Is this too low of a head speed for sport flying? I'm still waiting on my rpm sensor for the elogger.

I would recommend tacho'ing your headspeed with your e-logger because the set rpm feature results in an over geared and an in-efficient setup with short flight times.

13T governed should be good for 2100rpm, however, 1950-2000rpm would be better suited for sport flight.

make sure you set your throttle endpoints, i was off for my first few flights, my HS was definitely a bit low. No Tach, just going by sound

Hey Everyone,

I'm at the point where I'm soldering up my power system...

I'm using the 4025 Scorpion motor with the CC HV80 Ice. I can't get the ESC wires to fit into the female motor connectors provided with the Scorpion, they're too thick. Are you guys replacing the bullet connectors altogether because of this or am I missing something?

Thanks!
Pete

Okay, thanks! Can't believe I missed that one... I think I did all the recommended mods including, frame stiffeners with canopy lugs, metal tailboom lugs, ceramic bearings and larger shaft for motor and tail grip mod. I did the tail grip mod on my 600N and I'm anxious to see if I can turn up the gain on the GP780 I have installed...

Regards,
Pete

I installed Deans on my entire system.

Can you explain what an "anti-spark" system is? I thought you wanted the spark on Castle Escs?

Basically, a primary connection with an in-line resistor, where the Deans are a secondary connection between the flight packs and the esc.

This method preserves the contact surface of the male Dean.
