Got my ESC and motor on the way (CC ICE 80 HV / Scorp 4025-630) and need to know what to do for a pinion for the 6 mm shaft. Looks like .7 mod, 6 mm shaft and 13 or maybe 14T.... 15T if I decide to try it on gov? The only pinions I can find are RevCo pinions from Experience RC. Is this the best bet?

The pinions from the 600ESP is 6mm shaft but the smallest is 14 tooth.

Thanks, I checked out the pinion and it is indeed 6mm for the 650L motor. It is only 3mm at the top and would need to be drilled out to slip all the way on the Scorpion motor.

It still looks like the RevCo is the only 6mm .7 mod 13T available that I can find.

It is a better solution to simply cut the axle to the right length on the Scorpion motor.

I use Revco pinions on my 12s 600 and they have yet to fail me.

Regarding the 4025-630 motor, they come in 5mm or 6mm shafts so check before ordering a pinion. I had to upgrade my 630 from a 5mm to a 6mm shaft which was easy as I was already upgrading the bearings to boca ceramics at the same time.

I would not cut down any motor shafts to accommodate a pinion. Buy the right pinion for the job and junk the Align pinion. With the torque these motors generate you do not want to rely on an Align pinion that only seats 3/4 of the way on the shaft. Why cut corners on something you have so much invested in.

Thanks for the info. I ordered the 6 mm shaft motor which I received today. I also got the ESC. I need to pick up a BEC, pinions and get some wire so I can make the series connector. Getting excited.

I am going to be pairing up 3000mAh packs for my 12S conversion. I currently have Turnigy 35C packs that I fly in my 500ESP that I will use but I want to order some more packs. I really like the weight savings of the Nano Tech packs but am not sure if the C rating is adequate. My current packs are 35-45C (constant - peak) and the Nano Tech packs are 25-50C (constant - peak).

Anybody running the Nanos in their 12S conversion? Any opinions on this?

I run the Turnigy 30C and 35C, 3000mah and the nano-tech 25-50C, 2650mah packs.
Personally, using the seat of the pants dyno, I find no difference between the three packs. No 3D, just flips, loops and rolls, not a lot of rapid collective stuff.
The nano's are lighter and I use a foam block to space them forward for CG, but being of less mah rating, they run a shorter flight time.
I have a few packs of nano's and turnigys in 3S for my 450Pro and dont find the nano's any better than the turnigy's there either.
I will just buy more 30C Turnigy's when I need more packs as the 12S setup doesn't seem to care about the extra weight and they are cheaper and take the same amount of mah to re-charge as the other packs.

The hobbypartz.com Gens ace 3300mah 6S1P 22.2V 25C Lipo battery packs have been working like a champ for me. Good reviews i have seen and you dont have to pay the high hobby king shipping. I was going to do the nano tec, but found the Gen aces instead. only wish i found the gen Aces before i bought the Sky lipos.
Since a 12 cell setup doesn't pull a ton of current the 25C packs are great.

I worked through this thread about 8 months ago, built myself two 600 12s machines. This thread is invaluable! Anyway, concerning the pinions. I am STILL messing around with pinions, gears, governor gain, mesh, etc. This is the only problem area with my 600s. When I first started flying the 12s everything was fine. Then I started learning beginner tictocs, rainbows, etc. I strip the main gear every 10 flights.
I fly 4025-630/6mm/cc160hv/40c3000mah/15 pinion / 170 main, then I tried the kde 164 mod 0.7 with the same pinion, still stripped. Today I am trying the mod 1.0, 11 tooth pinion, 115 main. If this doesn't work I'm going to try F150 ford pickup transmission. :arggg:.

Just gonna start with the basics:

Are you checking mess all the way around the gear. I had to go too tight on the high side, so the low side was perfect, then went one flight easy to wear in the gear.

Are you flying gov mode? When you strip the gear, are you in a high load situation that requires the motor to recover quickly?

The -630 has been known to strip gears if you are switching between governed speeds and the change rate on the ESC is set too high.

I'm flying a 15T 0.7M on my -630, using the 170T 0.7M main gear. I have only replaced the main gear once due to a crash, but I've never stripped it in normal flight or even tictocs.

Is your one-way locking up at all?

Yes, high load.
I have had good luck with the 115. I am going to try a 4035-500, I just got it!

I was locking up the one way often. Fixed that, it was an incorrectly installed kde hub.

I am still running the original setup as posted by Reccleston.

Have an 80HV now rather than the 85HV and a 13T not 12T.

The main issue I have had that was not in the original post is eating main gears.

Just put the KDE Nylatron main on so we will see how this goes.

Other than that the 4025-630 needed BOCA bearings soon after I bought it.

Thats all I can think of.

I see no reason to go with the really high end Esc or motor combos for my mild 3D style.

I can TIC TOC all day long on this setup and until recently was running +/-18 degrees on my Outrage head and it was not bogging. I have the rotorworks HFX frames.

The loops I could do were ridiculous!

Then I switched to 14T the loops got even more ridiculous, then the esc blew a cap and down she came....lesson learned.

Back to 13T with +/-14 I think.

Do it...

I've been running a 14T and a HV85 for many moons now... I am on my 5th set of batteries, and it seems like a super setup, getting 2200RPM for 5 minutes out of Voltz 3300 35C. I do have the KDE main gear, I just rebuilt the motor for the first time, guess I got 300 flights out of the stock bearings? VBar really helps the old 600 out!

Yeah, I am going to check the amps carefully at 13T with normal collective throws and then move up to 14T.

I can't believe it even flew with so much collective throw before, but it sure was fun!
