1st ever round-up of NW Lower Michigan helicopter pilots in Traverse City.
This is an informal, non-AMA sanctioned gathering of all the beginning helicopter pilots scattered all over Northern Michigan. AMA license will be required to fly alone. This event will be hosted at the TRAMPS airfield and food and refreshement will be free. The purpose is to have a face-to-face meeting of all heli pilots, get their machines running smoothly and get their setups for hovering and forward flight set. We are hoping to get a group of active heli-pilots going and to host a much better event in the future.

Just a reminder Northern Michigan beginners. you have a week to order any parts, get your flying gear together before coming to Traverse City
for Saturday 23, September. It is looking goog for a USCG H-65 Dauphin to stop by for a visit for several hours. Sure hope to see you. Come and let's get your helicopter going, get you going and start spinning those blades. See WWW.TRAVERSEMODELPILOTS.COM for more information and map to get there.

Just got an email from a fellow coming from Grand Haven, that's great.
He was asking about hotels.
Just south of the flying site on US 31 and the intersection of M37 there is a newer ECONO LODGE across the street from the new MENARDS store.
2 miles north of the TRAMPS field on US31 just south of the GRAND TRAVERSE MALL there is a BAYMONT hotel by Applebees' , a Fairfield Inn next to Cracker Barrel, and a Marriot Residence Inn next to Sam's club.
Heck, bring the wife, get dropped off at the field, turn her loose on the merchants of Traverse City and Leelanau while you fly and bs all day.
Colors are just getting started here in NW Mich.
All hotels are close by and have food close by for any travellers coming on Saturday or the Friday night before. These are just the close by hotels,
this town has 4400 beds for tourist if you want to stay by the water with the wife or family.
Free food for pilots and family during the day Saturday. So bring a smile, a jacket, your heli, parts, manuals and let's get you and your chopper working better. :D
You might bring some hobby cash as we might have a vender with bling and parts coming aslo. If Pete comes, he has lots of parts, blades, electric goodies and is a dealer for Raptor and TREX.
Don't forget that AMA license if you have one, if you don't get one. Yor are going to need it in this hobby. :)

A great first time event. Weather gave us 7 hours of sunny nice weather when we needed it. Food was good and the USCG H65 landing to join us was a real treat. The X-cell gasser on the buddy box gave lots of guys their first forward flight experience and every helicopter we worked on got smoothed out and flying and setup for the needs of its owner. Both Realflight simulators were kept busy in the motorhome too. No crashes, only one blown plug heli feel from the sky, changed the plug, straightened the flybar and back into the sky, no problems. 28 pilots rounded-up and 40+ helicopters. Thanks to all those that came, and all my TRAMP friends that jumped in and helped with the cooking and setup/cleanup.
