View Full Version : G10 or CF frames after crash

I crashed my 550 pro today and the CF frames, although damaged a few places, I think the side frames can stand up for now. But for the next crash, I'm thinking of buying the G10 side frames instead of the CF ones

My question is: will the G10 side frames go together with other CF frame parts well? Also, $17 (G10) vs $40 (CF), should I save the money on the side frames and go with G10? The back area of the side frames where connecting to the base plate seems pretty weak, and will potentially break again.

Thanks in advance.

YUp, they should be interchangable.

For this 550 size, is CF worth the money comparing to G10 in terms of weight saving and strength?

The weight diff is going to be minor, my back up frames are all FG.

G10 should hold up better than CF. For mortals, I would think it would be difficult to tell any difference due to the weight.
After breaking the CF frame on the very first crash of a T500, I am running G10. It has seen a few crashes and is holding up well.
CF is stiffer and has bling.

What is G10? Plastic?

It's FG.

hmm... so what are the FG frames then... plastic? :)

:thinking I thought G10 was plastic  :arggg:

Newp, its just a type of FG.

Isn't G10 a hardened aluminum?

Or perhaps balsa wood?

Maybe it's from another planet!?* I heard that new eAurora was made outa meteorite fragments found in the UK that had been buried for some 5,000,000 years, they think it's the "dinosoar killer" its weight is comparable to marshmellow fluff and it's hard yet flexible-like Jolly ranchers after 5 min.

Mmmmmmm Marshmellow Fluff

G-10 is laminated circuit board material, very durable, there is a HUGE call for CF in military applications, car manufacturers are using it so that is what is making CF hard to get and driving the prices up, Steven's G5's and 550's are all G-10 and they are holding up great, it was much easier for me to just go G-10 and keep one spare set of everything allowing me to keep both heli's in the air without stocking different frame parts.

Don't get me wrong I love the look of CF, but when the kid is tossing it around in the sky can you really tell :YeaBaby:

Alright, the testimonial from an Outrage pilot helps me with this decision: G10 from now on :D

By the way, did Charley ever come out with servo direct linkage design for the FBL Outrage 550? He made one for the Trex-600, why not one for Outrage 550.

Thank you all.

Hey Rotor, I'll be flying with Charley tomorrow and will ask if it's on his drawing board ;)

Quick question, Clyde.

Is that true that the frame above can serve for both left and right sides?

Yes, the servo tray is independent from the side frame on the 550 so the frames are "uniside" :YeaBaby:

Outrage frames are always interchangable, the left and right will only be determined by how you press the control shaft bearing in.

P.S. And what am I ?? re: Outrage pilot :)
