I am upgrading the HeliMax 2580kv motor to an align 430L. I was able to get the motor out but what a pain in the butt it was trying to get needle nose in the right spot to grab the nuts.

Anyone have any tips on installing a motor and how to get the gear/pinion tightness setup correctly? It looks like I will need to secure the motor to the mount before installing the motor mount or I wont be able to tighten the motor screws.

With the motor mount in place put one mount screw in place put motor with pinoin up into the bird. I have found philips srcews to be easyest to get to if you dont own ball end hex. Put second screw in and Find pinion placement and locktite it in place. Then useing a piece of paper or plastic bag set the mesh tighten down one screw and remove the other to locktite it. Once the first screw is locktited in place, do the same to the second. Once that is done remove the paper/plastic and you are good to go. I have found 12t pinion to be prime but good luck finding one. If you want long flight times for basic flight use 11t. For good 3d head speed use 13t. there is a 12t for the eco 8 but most places are out of stock on it at this time. You will want the heat sink on that 430 and mont it to the back. Remove some of the fin on the side of the hs about 1/4 inch down so that it will slide up clear of the motor mount. By puting it at the back it keeps cog in order. Plus with that 11t you will find great lift from 305mm (align 315) without as much heat. When you are installing the motor drop the pitch arms full down for more room to get the tools in. Hope this helps.
