Since i doubt each company manufactures their own loose lipos, what is chemically different about these cheap packs? EX:

200 dollars for 6s2p 8000 mah 80a continuous 120a burst packs from truerc? http://home.comcast.net/~truerc/custompack.htm bottom

Stock align 6s2p 4.2ah battery = 16c = 67Amps = $200

Each cell sold separately for 30bucks. Where does he get the cells themselves?
how are they cheap? Are they old cells? They have the same rating w/o false advertising but they are degraded?

Anyways, 6s2p 8ah at 1k grams. Thats only 250g more than my evo 4900. I'm not pretending performance would be remotely similar.

Would the 8ah battery not be great for those of us who enjoy hovering around? Basically I want duration. Anything to do with helis. and THEN the 6 minutes of fun sounds much more appealing.
i doubt 250 extra grams will have a significant effect on aligns motor, saying 60A at hover. So whats the catch.

Where do i get what i pay for? its not a loophole in supply/demand. why is it in low demand or high supply? Thanks guys.

Oh, cycle life? but then if its so definative i dont see anyone complaining very often about the smaller cheap packs.

Anything to do with helis.I don't have any specific information about why these packs/cells are low priced. What often happens is manufactures quality check their products at the end of the line. Those which rate over a set threshold are sold to the regular channel. The products under the quality cutoff are sold into a "less than perfect" channel, at a steeply reduced price.

The buyers of the later group are responsible for deciding item by item which are good/safe enough to be sold and disposing of the rest.

We have seen at Dell and Apple what happens when LiPos have manufacturing defects. So far, no one seems to have been killed as the result of burning batteries in those computers but, it could have happened.

Of course your mileage may vary.

As to running large MAH packs. I sometimes run my HeliMax MX400 (similar to a T-Rex 450SE) with a 4200MAH (normally folks run a 2100 MAH) pack. While it is too heavy for quick moves, I get around 20 minutes of flight time. It turns out, I almost never fly more than 10 minutes at a time. So the only advantage is I don't have to change my pack for 2 consecutive flights.

I've bought nearly all my packs, and loose cells from Truerc - and the one thing I can be sure of - he's great! They make up their own packs in what I'm sure is NOT a production line. Put it this way - I bought loose cells, shrink tubing, etc from him, and the packs I made looked identical to the ones I bought from him premade.

So I'm assuming it's a bit of a cottage industry. With Truerc you are not paying for staffing costs, tooling, overheads etc etc. If you email the chap he will make pretty much any configuration you ask for.

Their cells have certainly not proven to be sub standard, or rejects in any way i can tell - they all peform and deliver as you would expect.

Moving onto 8000Mah - I fly 8000Mah on my Logo 20 and get well over 25 mins of flying. The extra weight gives stability and smooth flying. Plus, as you double your Mah - you are doubling the amount of Amps you can draw - so your packs are not even being worked out.

Of course there is the weight to consider. My logo 20 was designed for the weight of 20 nicads, so flying 8s4p is no biggie. If your heli is designed for less weight you will find the motor gets a touch warmer (and esc). My Eolo - on 8000Mah used to get stupidly hot.

thanks for your replies guys. It seems everyone is performance performance performance, and duration @6mins =P Well, now i think i'll go ahead and try one of the packs.

hell its 205 bucks. its rated at a higher continuous and burst discharge rate than aligns stock and costs less. Oh, balancing may be a problem.. you can ask him to add TP balancing ends right?

I'm definitely going to go ahead and try it. Out of stock till late september though huh.

He'll add any connector you ask I'm sure. I just cut his plug off and put the one I need on (Flightpower)
