View Full Version : Spektrum radio and receiver setup for CP Pro

I built a t-rex 450 SE and I'm using a Spektrum DX6 with it. There is not enough room around my house to fly the t-rex (also not too safe with my children around) so I've been using my CP Pro. Anyway, I've upgraded the swash plate, got the 400 brushless motor, installed the heading lock gyro and threw on the speed control. The last thing I want to do is throw on a receiver to use with my spektrum. Has anybody out there done this? I'm looking to see where to mount the receiver or even instructions on how to do this with the 3 in 1. Any help would be greatly appreciated![/b]

I know this can be done with only 2 servo extentions! lookin fo link.... P.S. I am going brushless /spektrum also. tossing the 4in1 and getting belt upgrade

The Spectrum RX fits perfectly between the rails on the Blade Pro. It also leaves room up front for the BL ESC and 3-in-1. I have a pretty similar setup as you, Blade Pro/G90/brushless main/spectrum rx.... I am using a different remote (JR) but I can still probably help you out. What questions do you have about the set up?
BTW... A 400 motor is overkill for a Blade IMO. You will have to turn your throttle curve way down to get it to work right. These motor/speed controllers usually work most efficiently above 85-90% throttle. With a 400 motor I would guess you can't get past 60 or 70% before head speed is too fast. Just a thought.... but I have been wrong tons of times :D

Sorry it's been a while since I responded. I've taken a few months off to spend with the kids. I’m back in the saddle and ready to start fling again. So I think I got everything set up but you were correct Funky. The head speed was waaay too fast. However, now I can't seem to get the cyclic response configured correctly. I can get the thing off the ground but the turning response tends to lag in comparison to the stocked CP out of the box. What do you recommend?

By the way - Bluemooone, how did the belt upgrade come out? I'm thinking of doing the same.

You could try turning up the swash values (CP2 and CP3 in the DX... I think) in your radio's menus. These are defaulted to 60%. Try turning these 2 up and see if you get more control (not the pitch value (CP6) in the swash setup... this only changes how much pitch travel the blades have)

Spektrum DX6 & Gyro Setup for Dual HH Selection.
On the Spektrum DX6 radio the Gyro can only be switched between a + and a – value (cannot have two + or two – values) meaning that you can't have set two HH values.
By adjusting the Ger Sub-Trim you can move the center point for the Gyro up into HH mode or down into Rate mode.
The Ger (Gyro) Sub-Trim can be moved +/- 125, but the trim scale it is not on the same scale as the Travel adjust. I found that 83 on the sub-trim = 50% travel and 125 on the sub-trim =75% travel (this works out to Center Point Desired x 1.66 = Sub-Trim Value).
In Example 1 the Sub-Trim is set to 0 and the Ger Travel adjust are set to – 75 (Rate Mode) and +75 (HH Mode), This produces a selectable rate of -75 and +75 (-75 & 0 = -75 and +75 & 0 = +75).
In Example 2 the Sub-Trim has been moved to +125 (+75% travel) and the Travel adjust has been set to -15 and +15, This produces a selectable rate of +60 and +90 (-15 & +75 = 60 and +75 & +15 = 90).
In Example 2 the Sub-Trim has been moved to +125 (+75% Center Point) and the Travel adjust has been set to -7 and +21, This produces a selectable rate of +68 and +96 (-7 & +75 = 68 and +75 & +21 = 96).
Things to remember:
When you add up your Travel + Sub-Trim they cannot be over + or – 150
Examples:
+125 Sub-Trim (+75% Center Point) & + 90 travel would = +165 (Travel to high)
+83 Sub-Trim (+50% Center Point) & + 90 travel would = +140 (OK)
When you add up your Travel + Sub-Trim be careful of your lower # as you could effectively turn your gyro off
Examples:
+83 Sub-Trim (+50% Center Point) & - 50 = 0
+125 Sub-Trim (+75% Center Point) & - 75 = 0

As for the reciever mounting I just removed the old RX and put the AR6000 in it's place.

Thanks! This is extremely helpful. I'm taking it for a spin tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

I was thinking of getting that TX(Spektrum DX6) for my current heli (a BCCP) and my 450SE build this winter. My LHS sells the TX/RX/ and micro servo's for $199 is that a good price? Let me know how it works on the BCCP as i'm getting bored with th stock BCCP setup and will be massivley upgrading soon. Is the Spektrum DX6 work well with the 450SE? any regrets? or other TX you wished you would have bought?

The DX6 is missing some stuff. You would be better to wait a bit, save some money and buy the DX7 when it comes out. Much nicer radio and better programming.
Others have combined a JR 6102 with a DX6 to make a hybred that is pretty nice.
$199 for the DX6 is the standard price. You can occasionally find them for $10 - $20 less.

I agree. Go with the DX7. I'm probably going to upgrade to it pretty soon.

Well my credit card was melting after buying a TREX450s CF kit , so I bought a DX-6 for now...
I can use the servo's on my blade and the 6000 rx will work on either my REX or BCCP, I may get a DX-7 when they offer just the Tx in the future.
I will eventually put my BCCP on the DX-6 after I finish the TREX build.
My Pro is stock, what is involved to get the stock rx off and replace it with the 6000 from the DX-6?

The DX6 works fine for me on my T-Rex SE
To be honest the DX7 looks nice but for now I can't justify spending the extra $$$ for it as the DX6 does all I want it to.

Jedi,
How did the trex build go?

The TREX build went well...450S cf frame, 430L, 35A esc, GY401+9650, 325 Pro woodies. It flys great, expecially if your first heli was a BCP. I've been taking it home in one piece and my only crash was my fault. I found the parts to be cheaper than a BCP and since the heli fly's great and has good power I'm not crashing it like the BCP. It was great to finally power some large round loops, and fly backwards. My BCCP is stock with no gyro, so it's nice to be able to do a backwards loop and have the tail stay dead strait on my REX.

Looks clean and I like how you mounted the batt on the top. Let me know when you flip it.
Congrats!

Thanks,
Well actually the pictures need updated... I have to mount the batt up there right now because the other spot has been broke off since this pic. The speed controller is now velcro and ziptied to the side frame. I also took the ziptie off the gyro and use velco now.
I've flipped it a few times, mostly up high... its been cold here so not able to fly much right now. :(
