View Full Version : 695mm semi-syms

just bought a set of 190gram 695 semi-syms with 3° of washout. These ought to perform very similar to my semi-sym washout blades I flew on the GSR.

The washout helps reduce the ballooning and drifting tendancies that semi-syms normally exhibit.

I should get these later this week. I'll post back my findings.

Where did you get them?
Did they have anything in the 710-800 range?

they are Rotortech's got them from Century. no semi'syms in the 710-800 range. need to go to 830's for that

The RotorTechs are nice blades.
I am sure you will like them.

yeah... I had rotortechs on my Condor and was very happy with them.

got them today. These blades are every bit as good of quality as my Rotortech 810's I used to have on the Condor.

They fly very nice. Stable and not as balloony as other semi-syms I have flown. I needed to adjust my blade grip linkages 2 turns to add some positive pitch. The 3° washout causes the need for that. I didn't have my micro logger hooked up on the first flight but tomorrow I will run a couple flights with them and log the data. I'm curious to see if they pull less watts.

They sure do sound different... more of a whispy sound to them.

I found some aluminum tubing that is 22mm OD with .065" thick wall. may make good tail booms. (and 15 bucks for 8' length) hmm, you are using a50S16 DJ? I have kasama head coming, and may need to do this.

btw, joker frame and the twin swtich has shipped yesterday. should have them by tomorrow.

I'm using the A50-12L. .065" wall seems a bit thick and heavy but for the price it's hard to beat.

I'm installing a Kasama head as well. Placing my order for one this weekend.

Well, I can't argue with 8' for $15 being cheaper...but not enough that I'd want to waste my time cutting when the JR boom and 385 tooth belt are such a perfect fit.

DJ: Mount showed up yesterday - thanks!

Camera bird is quickly nearing completion. Last things I need are:

85T/10T gears (will have next week)
Blades (should have MAH 700 next week)
Slider boom mount for tail servo

I've got the full metal gohbee head. Everything should work except the swashplate. Going to put a rappy swash on. Geometry is slightly different between gohbee/rappy but it would be more a concern for 3Ders than AP.

Got 1.5 pair of the Prodigy packs ready....seem to have a dead cell on the other pack. Cell doesn't light up on balancer and no-load voltage pre-charging was ~ 1S lower than all the other packs I tested. :P

With my new bigger camera and new battery packs, I finally need to stretch also.

I was just going to go with

PV0338 - RAPTOR METAL MAIN ROTOR HUB FOR V2

over the current plastic head I have.

Is the Kasama head a must have, or just another version of a metal head block and the above raptor one is good enough? I just poked around a little and the kasama head is quite pricey.

I like the Kasama head because of it's clamping headblock design. When you are constantly flying a 12lb+ helicopter you want more than just the shear strength of a 3mm bolt (jesus bolt) keeping you aloft. Most well desgined 60+ size ships use a clamping headblock and it makes good sense.

Also the tolerences and craftsmanship appear to be among the best from what I hear.

My bad. The headblock itself is a small amount more than the Raptor one.

I was looking at the price for the whole head and did not realize it, that is why I though it was so pricey.

ok... today's flight with micro logger shows

FlightPower 10s2P 5000
317mah/min draw with the 695 semi's
avg. 335 mah/min draw on all previous flights with the TT 680 syms

They draw a bit less power. according to my calculations they would provide nearly 30 seconds longer run at the end of a 10 minute flight. Not much but hey.. every last bit counts.

It feels like they could easily handle another 10-12oz. payload over the TT 680's.

In an out of ground effect hover the heli does skate around a little more than syms but is a smooth drifting motion that isn't easily seen in video.

all in all I like them and will continue to fly them for a while until I upgrade to some 720's.

Just curious. Why the 720's?

What are you planning on hauling up? :)

I just like the ability to have a bit of safety/performance margin during the hot summer days here in AZ. You can really feel the difference between 70° and 105° day. The lift loss is considerable.

I figure with 720's I'll be able to fly around at 12 or 13lb without issue.

Also the bigger you go the more stable the video.... and I'm a nutcase when it comes to getting the smoothest video possible.
