Hey guys just got my 50 going Sun & have something I just dont get.
Heres what I got - I have 12 deg pitch on top 11 1/2 on bottom my stick is set up to be 0 deg @ 1/2 & 50% throttle. 100% +/- ATV on pitch, 90% +/- ATV on throttle. The thing is if I leave everything linear my head speed is cranking over 2000 at 1/2 stick (0 pitch & 50% throttle). I've counted the gears & I have the 10/85 tooth gears for the fifty. Is this normal? (First 50 machine so go easy on me :? ). IF I leave the pitch curv linear I have to get down to around 60% on the throttle to keep the head speed below 1850 which means I bearly get out of the mid range of the engine & have no real torq or good climb out. I can tweek both curvs to keep a good steady 1800 but I have to add so much pitch barly past center (9Z) that it takes very little movement of the stick to go from hover to drop like a rock! In other words make a smooth transition.
Is this what I'll have to deal with to keep the engine in its high band for power & a safe head speed or am I missing something???

Thanks In Advance!
Steve

I ran my R50 over 2K all the time, had to bump the curve down a tiny bit at mid stick I1 and 2, and at mid and 3/4 in Normal.

Give it hell!! Can't wait to fly with you soon!!

Yea I remember that thing was cranking!

Yours had a much better head than stock so I might just have to upgrade the head!
When mines cranking I LOOOVE the rocket climb out!
Still would like to find out what i'm doing wrong - if anything to get a lower head speed, keep the linear curves & have good performance. Whether it be the speed of the servos, ball placement on the servo arms or what so I will have the knowledge! Gess it will be off to more experimenting

1800 is to slow for a 50. With the 8.5 gearing the engine will run best at 2000 HS.
The throttle position is not what is most important. Put the throttle where ever it has to be to get the RPM that you want.
Just remember, the heli will fly OK at 1800 but you are way out of the power band of the engine so don't expect rocket climb-outs at 1800.

The hyper has so much power that a linear throttle curve will not work.

Although it can be done with curves alone, a gov makes life a lot easier with the hyper.

Agree with the flyingfool - the OS50 loves to rev and 8.5 is pretty tall gearing,
I fly a Sceadu with 8.7 gearing and fly 2050 in idle up.
The Falcon/Rave have 9.0 or 9.2 gearing - even better for the OS50.

Given that peak power is at 17,000rpm you want to be flying at around 17,500 rpm
(as long as you don't exceed the max rpm your head was designed for)

I run a RevMax on my OS50 with a 100% throttle curve,
this keeps the rpm very consistent and is also very responsive to load

The half a degree error in your pitch range will be due to
something not being 90 degrees (servo horns),
or the collective not level at mid stick,
or a bell mixer not being level at mid stick.

If you can't be bothered tracking it down,
just adjust your main blade pitch links,
If you can take 1/4 degree off the top, that will add 1/4 to the bottom,
that takes care of your 1/2 degree error
but leaves you with 1/4 degree pitch at mid stick - I doubt that you will notice it

Thanks Guys! The 1/2 deg worrys me in the least. I was just over concerned with the head speed being so high but I guess the worrying is for nothing.

Talked with David at Gohbee & he assured me the stock head would handle 1900 - 2000 head speed but much more than that I need to do a little upgrading. He's a great guy & will definatly recomend his busisness!
