Based on the description of the motor compartment "Ample Room for today's large motors", what are the chances of fitting a G231?

I know this is supposed to be an extreme 3D machine, but I am so fixed and sold on the gassers. I for one would be willing to try to fit one.

I also realize that this bird will probably run best on the OS 91, but the it's just sooooo sweet looking...

Suggestions, comments?

I dont think it will be possible to fit an 231 without serius modifications. You need around 7:1 in gearing, a BIG fan, a 2-3 cm wider frame...

I'll think that the best way to make this a gasser, use the Webra 91i.

I have test the Webra and it has a lot of power, not as much as an 30% nitro, but more than an PUH231...

That is not a bad idea. However, I've seen some very bad quality issues with that engine on the other thread. In addition, they are not very support friendly.

I think a better approach would be to go ahead and get this nitro version, and explore 'davis diesel' conversion head in the future

Has anyone in this forum tested this (diesel) on a heli?

I really hope that other engine manufacturers jump on the gun on this, as well as the kit providers to provide more support on accomodating the gassers. If the performance can be tuned, it makes so much more sense. The cost of Nitro is just crazy! If we can cut down on the cost of running the kit, then may be we'll have more free capital to spend on other kits and conversions... Just my 2 cents.

I can't see why anyone would take this great nitro heli and make it lesser by altering it. Augusto is absolutely genious...

These are the reasons why...

It's all about the economics, and less tools to carry around. The point here is not to intentionally make this great nitro bird into a less performing machine. It's actually the other way around. For those of us who are sold on the gasoline engine concepts and benefits, we are looking at every possible opportunity to close that gap of weight to power ratio that the nitro engines enjoy.

And due to the weight / power ratio of the gassers, when we see a great looking heli as this w/ light frame, great aerodynamics, it would be a great platform to really improve the gasser engine performance, we look for ways to make it work. The purpose of this thread is not to discourage the use of Nitro. I am planning on getting this heli regardless of the fuel. I am only thinking of the alternative down the line.

We should all support and embrace all nitro alternatives. If not, nitros will continue to stay around. In my opinion, the reason we don't have enough purpose built gas or diesel engine is due to the economic feasibility of developing one of these engines. And unless we continue to show demand, R&D effort wil continue to be focused on the nitro engines.

Ask yourself this question: If there was a gas or diesel engine ( LP gas? ) out there at a similar size and weight of a 90 nitro engine, with the same power or even more, would you still go with the nitro, given it's $20 / gallon price?

With all of the bulky gassers out there, something like the AVANT Aurora would be very desirable for a gasser platform. Once this beautiful bird gets release, I will jump on it w/ nitro, and find a way to fit a gas engine.
