Okay, the model is officially named!
Introducing the XCell Spectra-G - 3D!!!
The link has changed, now it is: XCell Spectra-G (http://www.miniatureaircraftusa.com/helicopterkits/1025_Spectra_G/1025_kit_main.asp)

Spectra?
I was imagining something a little more imposing, or grandiose.....

I've had a number of people ask about price. The model hasn't been priced yet but that will likely be done within the next week or so.

Spectra G....
I agree the name is kind of lame IMO.
It will always be known as the Gas-X to me. :D

It would be nice if you offered a set inlcuding the engine! I think this would be cheaper than buying kit and engine seperately.

MA will continue to sell the engine separately, just not as part of the kit.
There is less mystery to making gas motors work these days so its not as critical to sell a complete package

I feel such the science geek for pointing this out,,,,,but the word spectra refers to the em spectrum when dealing with photonics,,,,,,I know who cares,,,but I could not resist...
Thanks

Spectra G- The light gasser?

It came from the idea that the model will support a spectrum of different configurations.

It will always be the fury gasser to me.

Carey,
Is the parts count and build time going to be lower/quicker than the previous gas graphite?
Thanks

The packing lists aren't done, so I haven't been able to activate the parts count summary on the website yet.
Its about like building a Tempest so I imagine the parts counts will be similar.
One thing thats unfair about "parts counts" is that they normally include nuts, bolts and washers. Even though the actual number of parts that make up a model can be small, when you add up all the fasteners and washers, it can really run the number up. For example, counting all the nuts, bolts & spacers that hold the servos on the 5 servos in a tempest is 68 parts (including 4 servo bridges). So this unfairly skews the overall parts count higher when in fact the model is pretty simple. A typical composite helicopter does this with 20 sheet metal screws. Of course the servos aren't supported nearly as well in this config but if you're just comparing parts you may come to the wrong conclusion.

Carey,
Thanks for the reply. I guess my question on the parts count was more generic. I understand your explanation concerning the parts count. I just know that on my gas graphite there seems to be a lot of stuff when you need to take things apart, but then again maybe I just don't take it apart enough so when I do it seems a lot.
The pictures just look like it may be a bit easier to work on the new machine than the old one.
Thanks

Charles,
I think that you will find them 10x's easier to work on than your original Gasser.
The engine is right there and the Spectra even looks like less work to remove than the nitro engine.
I have owned TT, Kyosho, Hirobo, Century and by far I think my Fury is the easiest to work on for the quality of the kit. Yeah I could pull an engine in my Raptor or Sceadu a bit faster than my Fury, but neither flew as well. :D
Building the kit for the first time is a bit time consuming, but with the new tailbox I am thinking the hardest part of the build is gone. :D The rest of the frames are just time consuming due to parts count, but now that I have built 2 I can put them together pretty quick.
The frame design on the Spectra looks to be virturally identical to the Extreme with a couple changes for the gas engine and the Tempest servo layout.
I can't wait to get my hands on one of these kits.

Pics should be up sometime Sat evening. Not sure if John will have it ready to fly by Sat. He has to do all the Radio install and setup AND work, so it may not be flying yet, but then again, it might. :D
John said it is beautiful. I can't wait!!

For those of you interested, the Spectra-G 3D ready to fly weight using a Zenoah G231, is 12 lbs.
This was measured using a typical electronics/battery/servo/gyro combination, typical rotor blades and the stock zenoah air cleaner and muffler.
Adding the optional hatori muffler, high volume air cleaner, large batteries, using heavy rotor blades, etc will make the model heavier.
