almost all of the testing has been done with stock zenoah g231's. The standard gear ratio will work great with either the g231 or the g26, however I've yet to see a stock g26 that was smooth enough to be usable at the rpm ranges we're using.
So, if you want to use the 231, stock motor will be fine. If you want a g26, I'd suggest you look at the aftermarket motors that they have tried to balance.
I would definitely recommend the Stator Gator as well, it works great and has never faultered. Since thats manufactured here in the US I doubt there will be any shortage of those.
The motor in the Spectra in the demos at the Jamboree had modified timing and compression ratio.

What muffler is the best to use for a Z 231? What muffler was being used in the demo?

The new hatori muffler (sorry I don't know the hatori # and MA hasn't assigned a part # yet, but Ron Lund has them on his store) was designed to run with both the 231 or 26. We helped develop it and tested them extensively. They sound great and have proven to be pretty durable outside of a direct hit.

Thanks for the reply's Carey and Dave.
I have no problem waiting. I just wanted a better idea so I could plan for the additional equipment needed much as Carey talked about.
Dave, did you fly an orange heim 222 many many years ago? I think it was orange.
Mike Yes I did have one Yellow with black & orange, also had(still have) a Orange MEDEVAC BK117 with Purple Phoenix bird on the sides

The Zenoah G-231 is the recommended motor to use. My Spectra that flew at IRCHA has a G-231 in it, right out of the box.

Dave,
I thought you might be the same person. I remember seeing you fly that bird at Goddard way back when.

Ok, Been 5 days since the last post. What's the latest?
Are the canopies exclusive to this new heli or will and existing MA canopy work? Thinking of paint.

The Spectra-G uses the Fury Tempest canopy. The Fury Expert/Extreme canopy will also work using the mounting stand offs and locations from those machines.

Why would Cyberheli have it available before Ricks / Heliproz?
Is it listed for pre-orders only?

Its a feeding frenzy Carey, Can't you tell?
Now me, I got my G3231 & Hatori muffler and have been calling MA every other day. But since their taking sooo long, you will probably see me at the field with a new red 2-wing plank with a zdz50 on it before you see me there with the S-G. I bet it will fall in about the time of my birthday though (november)! ! !

not much new to report, the hurricanes delayed everything by about 8 weeks.
As you've probably noticed, the new heavy duty clutches, which are part of the Spectra package are now in and for sale. If your into the really radical 3D flying styles and using a .90 OR using lower gear ratios like the Tempest FAI or Spectra you'll want one of these, as they won't slip. Its also quite a bit smaller and lighter than the original XCell gas clutch is and this one is threaded so you can change the gear ratios.
As soon as the t/r gears get here, the tail rotor transmission will be available as well.
I believe the only remaining Spectra part not on site is the fan shroud, which has been redesigned into a two peice assembly. It fits the fan and cylinder better and has a significantly improved mount mechanism.

I reserved mine back in late July and am new to RC helicopters, so what exactly do I need to get with it besides the common items? Do I need to buy the new clutch and t/r gears??? Are they not included with the kit? Thanks!
Suggest parts that I should buy with the Spectra G.
Spectra G 1025-3 kit (includes Canopy and fins?)
Engine
Muffler
K&N Filter
Main Blades (assuming they're not included)
Tail Rotor Blades (?)
Second fuel tank and mounting hardware
Starting equipment (i.e. pullstart?)
Am I missing anything else besides radio equipment? And what is a stator gator that I keep reading about? Thanks guys.

She looks good Carey!!.. Hey if you sell enough of them I (Stator Gator) may be able to get one!!!
Thanks for the good words

To Use:
Engine- Zenoah G-231
Muffler- Hatori #??? (don't know part # yet)
K& N filter (if you wish)
Main blades- 710 Symmetrical (700's will also work)
Tail Blades- 105's (110's can also be used)
No second tank for fuel is needed. The model kit will come with all tank and plumbing as well as other goodies specific to the gas model.
The stock pull start will not work directly due to the bottom plate. The stock pull start can be used with a simple adapter that also makes it removable. I top start my Spectra with no problems with a Hobbico 90 starter that I use for my glow machines. The Zenoah starts much more easily than the .90 motors as well.
The Stator Gator is an opti-coupled pick up for the GV-1 governor. It is plug and play, you just plug one end into the bullet kill wire of the Zenoah, attach the ground wire and then plug it into the GV-1 control box. I have used one now for well over a year and this unit is flawless! This is recommended equipment for the Spectra- G if you are using the governor.
Thanks Tom!!!
Hope this helps!!

Looks Like pre-orders started shipping to folks on the 14th. Is there any truth to that?
Please notice this is just hearsay on my part!!!!!

Thanks, John. I appreciate the information you've given me. It sure helps. One question - what exactly does the stator gator do in combination with the governor? And will I need to purchase separately any adapters or mounts if I use the top start? Thanks again.

Phil Sorry I missed your question.
The Stator Gator replaces the magnetic pickup on the GV-1 governor.
Instead of mounting magenets in the engines fan and fabricating a mount for the stock GV-1 sensor and setting it's distance for proper sensitivity, my unit simply
plugs into the kill switch wire and then into the GV-1. Nothing to set or adjust.
Most people flying gassers have found that a head speed governor is a wonderful thing!! :D
It can be ordered from my website found on the front page of this wonderful site :D

Tom, Just placed an order for a stator gator via your site! Hope I got the right one, it's for a Zenoah G231.
What root/grip size for the mains on this one? 14/5?
Just trying to get some things ordered....
Also, Will the new Hatori Gas muffler on Rick's site be a good choice for the Zenoah engine?

BDIS, maybe November 14th but certainly not October 14th. It had been hoped to start getting them out in September, but the 3 hurricanes that came here disrupted the parts flow and closed the shop for a week.
Other than radio equipment, the only things you HAVE to have is an engine (the Z231 or G26 both come with a muffler, air filter and pull starter) and main blades.
The kit includes the plastic 105mm blades. I would suggest you run 710mm blades with the stock extreme 3D head or 700mm blades if you choose the optional Tempest 3D head. As John indicated, it will include EVERYTHING you need to completely plumb the fuel system.
The kit can also be special ordered with the Tempest FAI head if you wish although it will not be specifically kitted. Call the store for a price.
