I have chosen two models

1) Vario Powercat with PHT3 or SPH5 turbine
2) Hobbyparts benzine conversion with wren54

Which one should I go for. Also a price idea would be highly appreciable.

If anyone has one for sale let me know also.

Thanks in advance

Well, although it sounds like you have narrowed it down to 2 models...I still feel the need to ask what you are expecting out of your turbine. Are you planning on putting it into a scale fuse? Do you want to just hover around and do some gentle fwd flight? Or are you looking for something that you can feel comfortable in doing moderate 3D maneuvers? Have you looked into the Bergen Turbine? I know you and others are going to say I am being biased…and yes I am…although in my defense I have owned the predecessor to the PowerCat (the HotCat) with the JetCat PHT3 and have flown the HobbyParts benzene conversion with the Wren54 along with most other brands…so I feel I have a good handle on how they perform compared to the Bergen…For Turbine 3D, the Bergen wins hands down…At least something to consider…

But to answer your question...if not considering the Bergen I would opt for the HobbyParts Benzine with the Wren 54...I thought if flew better than my HotCat with the PHT3...not sure but just about every HotCat or JetCopter SX I have flown feels like it wants to "fall out" of the sky when you bank it into a highbanking turn? not sure why?? I thought maybe it was just me...but most people I have talked to noticed something weird when putting them into banked turns...

Again...just my "Biased" 2 cents...But like I said...I have been lucky enough to fly most all the available Turbine models out there...with the exception of the Odyssey...(Hint Hint Dr. Tim! I still want that stick time you promised me! :D)

I just want to do gentle fwd flights. No hard 3D.

Pick your posion then...they will all do that! :D I would say get what your budget can afford...one good thing to do is that if there are some turbine fliers around your area you might want to consider getting something along the lines of what they have...then you will have a local suport group...although...Helifreak has I lot of go info in the turbine area...somebody will be able to answer your question or will have seen any problem you might be encountering...no matter what brand you decide on...welcome to the club! we are all consumed by one thing on this forum...TUBINES!

Thank you Greg. I appreciate your advise very much. One more question should I go for pre-owned or Brand new, if brand new how much should I target for ? At the moment I prefering pre-owned cause I have to leanr a lot of turbine mechanics :smokin: If some one is selling their turbine can you let me know their names and #?

Thanks again I will enjoy the turbine forum.

don't think I know of anyone selling a turbine right now...there was a HobbyParts Benzine conversion here on the freak for sale a couple of weeks ago...not sure if it sold or not...I have not been up on top of the Forum for a while as I have been in the middle of packing and moving...

As for new or used??? that again I would think depends on your budget...getting new gets you a warranty on the turbine...along with other obvious things when you buy new...getting a used machine can save you a LOT...depending on what machine you could probably find a ready to fly pod and boom bird between $4500 and $6000...but, unless you know the person or somebody can vouch for the person you are at the word of the person you buy from on what the history of the machine is...

for a while there seemed to be a lot of JetCopters for sale...but I haven't really seen anything for sale for a while...sorry can't be more help...

Like Greg says if you have some local support to share your issues you won't regret that. Experience speaking.
