Perchance does anyone have access to a Panasonic HVX200, or HVX 100 if its the same shape ?
I would like the overall dimensions and, importantly, where the CG is in relation to the rest of the camera. Im designing something.....

We shot with one of those last week. a large camera for RCAV purposes.
I'll try to drop by the studio tomorrow and get the dimensions you need.

Thanks DJ, I think my new design can lift it. Looks like it will be 22 lbs all up (incl 6lbs for the DVX). Seems the DVX 200 is what all the serious video customers want. 24P HD.

Greg, your thinking is right on. This is a serious setup that will wow you with the results. I shot briefly with this on an underslung Maxi joker for our last video job and will be shooting with it once again soon but this time with a front mount if I can get it to CG
So you got the AUW of the ship down to 16lbs huh? Nice work! I am hoping to come in around there but man the weight piles on fast. The days of my 16lb AUW joker CX are long gone! :(

This was the previous incarnation of my big camheli (I have a little one too).
It weighed 14.6 lbs RTF no camera. Worked good but bigger cams led to a CG prob. I had flown it at 18 lbs allup and it still had bags of power reserve.
I am reworking the mechs into an "under" mount so it can handle bigger cams with out having to do a lot of weight shifting. I figger the added landing gear length and 3rd axis will bring it to 16lbs no cam.

nice looking heli. looks efficient.
I would love to design my own frameset for UBER AP. the question is. which mechanic. with all these large outrunners now, single stage setup will work fine for gears. frankly, I think rear mounted motor is way to go like the Raptor SE. sure would help the balance for nose mount and allow the mount to be pulled in tight to the center.
biggest issues with underbody mount is weight. beefy tall legs means weight. add in pan and it complicates the issue. with E heli, you really have to minimize the weight if possible. I am working on one for raptor

Allright, so whats really needed ?
The majority of research i have done shows that 24P is what you really need if you hope to get the big biz with videographers or any type of movie work. Thus my interest in the HVX200
This was just announced:

Lighter. 3.7lbs. Cheaper. Smaller physically. No 24p/f though.
Is 24p really needed ,or is this fx7 close enough ? DJ , what ya think ?
Id feel less aprehensive bandsawing off the top handle on the sony

IMHO 24P is a necessity. We shoot all 24P with either the DVX100, HD100U, or HVX200 at the studio for good reason. Our clients demand it.
24P adds a nearly film like look that you can't get with standard 30fps video. Ever wonder why foreign video looks like film?? PAL which plays at 25fps.
If it were me I would try to go with a 24P camera. One thing to keep in mind about the HVX200 is the .mxf file format of the clips. Many post houses do not have the ability to play native .mxf files (our studio included). We purchased a program called RayLight. It converts the .mxf to a DV .AVI with very little loss. You'll either need to do this for your clients if they can't take .mxf files or you'll need to convert the footage to sequential image sequences.
I can't understand why the hell sony won't jump on the 24P wagon ??!!! WTF?!
