View Full Version : CP Pro mind of its own

Sure, as a beginner I am moving up from the CX but I can not get the CP Pro to trim out the way I want it. When I fly, I am constantly correcting nearly everything: aileron & collective (a little) and rudder a LOT! Yes, I set everything up as per the instructions, even wait a REALLY long time for the 4 in 1 to initiate and make sure I have a good solid green light. I begin to fly and the darn thing turns red for the entire duration of every flight and it seems as if the helicopter is controlling itself and I am keeping it from crashing. In summary, it is really "twitchy" and never wants to stay in a stable hover (or forward flight) unless I work extremely hard to keep everything straight and level.
Does anyone have any type of suggestion for me? It's a little frustrating but all the Real Flight has definately paid off!
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide!
Ziggy

my blade CP upgrade heli , is pretty good but compared to my t-rex its night and day . the bcp does require alot of action from you the pilot to keep it straight, it doesnt do well even in slight wind . its a handfull and you do chase it around alot . I can get it to hover fairly smooth but hands off hover is almost impossible .

Howdy, Ziggy!
My advice for people that start flying "real" Heli's with the blade (it is not really stable like a big one... Remember: It's a Micro-Heli, it's less stable per definition...), is the following...
First of all: Install a training gear, it safes you money in the long run.
Second: Do not attempt anything else than hover if you did not successfully master it.
Third: For starters, move all three swashplate-linkages on the Servo-arms from the original outermost to the middle/center position. That will help you *very* much in learning to hover, but - mind you! - it also takes a lot of maximum available pitch, so forward-flight is definitely no more possible. So if you can keep it more or less stable within an area of 3x3feet, move the linkages out and learn it again. When you did that successfully, you can do your first paces in forward flight. I recommend to keep the gear on during the first flights due to the improved perception of the models position.
Hope that helps...
Cheers,
Daniel

THanks for the replies!
Danny, I sincerely appreciate your reponse. However, I may need to clarify my situation. I am pretty confident that I am past the learning stage with this heli.
1. I already have the training gear in place.
2. I have already done more than a hover. I have taken it up to about 50 to 100 feet. My thinking was perhaps the receiver is getting strange interference near the ground so why not take it higher? I figured it was worth a try. I recall one instance when I took it up high, I had it going about 20 mph in a forward flight and it was really smooth, but it only lasted for 10 seconds or so.
3. I alredy know how to hover, it just won't stay put. Also, it is next to impossible to keep it within a 3x3 foot area but I at least tried! :)
Going back to my initial post, do you know how to solve a twitchy heli? More specifically, I lift off and the rudder twitches the heli to the left for a nano second, then no twitch in a new direction, then twitches again towards the left, then occasionally it will twitches collective up, then aileron to the right. It's completely random. It "feels" as if it is a receiver problem of some sort.
Also, once I lift off the light is solid red. I recall on my CX that the light only occasioanlly turned red during all my flights.
Anyone have any other suggestions as I am still frustrated? :arggg: Thanks!

Sorry Ziggy,
My reading on your situation obviously was a bit different than you intended...
About the light:
Though it is different in the manual, it's also already red when I am at a powersetting to hover.
Either the light does not only go to red when it's at 100% throttle, but already at something like 70%, or the description on the throttle-curve in the manual is not correct.
On your twitchy heli:
It does sound to me for sure like intereference...
Where do you have your antenna routed?
Around the skids like the original? Then I would look for a broken antenna-lead or maybe even a faulty receiver. Maybe also a connector that is somewhat loose and tends to sometimes disconnect momentarily?
Expirience from a friend of mine says: Do not wrap the antenna around the tailboom, since it has the power-wires for the tailmotor in it... ;)
If you have a fellow Blade-Pilot nearby, you may want to swap the transmitter also for troubleshooting...
The crystals can also sometimes be a source for such a problem.
Do the interference only happen, when you have the rotor turning?
What about, when you are very close with the transmitter, like less than 3 feet (have a helper hold it)? What if its farther away, like 100ft?
If it works fine in very close range, then you might have a physical problem with the radio connection, like a broken lead.
I hope I was able to give some hints...
Intereference is not a nice thing, as I was able to discover myself with a transmitter, that was faulty in helicopter-mode (only on throttle and pitch-channel)...
Sincerely,
Daniel

some times the cyrstal can viborate loose so that you need to check that it seated properly every flight.

also , I would recomend trex ball link thingies on the servos , and a set of blade cx sevro links(u will need to shorten them a bit , but will keep u closer to 90* when moving them in

twitchy helis, :bomb: its because , ppm raidos are cr*p , they are weak . it is possible to use a proper radio with the 4in one I think , or the 3 in one controller . I have mine runnig on spektrum . PCM is the standard for helis right now . you must try rerouting your ant. away from the motor , also always fly with full transmitter battery , generally as a rule I only put around three flights on my transmitter when I fly my helis , i carry more than one TX battery when I go out

First and foremost, thank you all for your posts and suggestions. Danny, I thought you had some awesome information! I never thought of half of the solutions you mentioned!
Well, since I thought the heli was suffering from interference, I took it to a local high school band parking lot about 3 miles away from my house. PROBLEM SOLVED! The heli flew like it was on rails (or at least that way compared to how I was forced to fly before!!!!! There were no more twitches and glitches with random rudder inputs! It was too easy to fly! I guess I feel that way because before, I had to constantly think one step ahead and make corrections.
Anyway, I just thought I would say thanks for all you suggestions and I love to fly the heli now. I am considering purchasing the heading lock gyro to make it better and more fun! Oh yeah, Raptor 50 Titan here I come!!
Thanks again!

Congrats! They are a handfull!
Thanks and do you really think so? I don't feel that way at all. Sure, it's a small challenge to fly in heavy winds (like I was today) but it was not unmanagable. I guess all the Real Flight has paid off.
I am dying to have my Raptor 50 finished and flying!
