Hey guys,
I've recently bought myself a 2ndhand Fury Extreme. It's completely set-up now, the only thing it's still missing is my TJ Pro which i have lying around somewhere.
I have the 2 sensors (optical and the magnet), i would like to install the optical one on my machine. The only thing is, the extreme is equipped with the metal fan.
I know when i'll stick the reflecting pad to the metal fan, that the optical sensor will not recognize it due to the fan being metal.
So the only option is to spraypaint the fan. What paint should i use or do you guys recommend to install the magnet into the fan.
So, let me know your tips and reactions plse.
Grtz,
Dirk

Most just spray paint the bottom of the fan flat black. Except they mask off a strip and leave it not painted. Any spray paint should work. Might have to repaint it after a while if the paint doesn't like the fuel residue.

Scuff the bottom of the fan with some 400 grit... Make sure it is clean with alcohol.. I would use flat black BBQ grill high heat paint.. I tends to stick pretty well. Spray it in light coats.. But as David says, most paint would probably stick provided the surface is prepared well. I have used the optical sensor in the past but have had better luck with the magnetic. The optical seems flaky to me..

Here is the procedure I use. First find the heavy side of your fan. That is where the clear strip will be. Mask a 10-15mm strip and scuff the rest of the fan with a Scotch-Brite pad or as Marshall suggests 400 grit sand paper. If you have access to zinc chromate primer give the fan a light coat. Zinc chromate primer is available at marine stores and is used as a primer for aluminum products used in a marine environment, notably outboard motor lower units. The zinc chromate coat will prevent the aluminum fan from oxidizing under the finish paint. Spray the zinc chromate outside and don't inhale the over spray, it's bad stuff. Even if you skip the primer I recommend that you use Rust-Oleum flat protective enamel #7776. It's relatively fuel proof and exhaust residue doesn't bother it. Once the the finish coat is dry to the touch all that's left to do is to balance the fan. Of course if you use a drill bit and drill dimples in the bottom of your fan to balance it, you will have to paint the dimples. If you can wait, the paint will be more fuel proof after several days drying time.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies, i did spray paint the fan this afternoon and left a strip masked. When everything was dry i removed the strip and installed the engine.
Did one test flight this afternoon, and the optical sensor does it like it should !
Thanks for the tip !
