View Full Version : Modifying the TP8000 5S4P into 5S3P?
I have 2 sets (4 Packs) of TP 8000 ProLites.
Whilst I love the Ion-X, I still feel it lacks power because of too much weight.
1/ Do you think I could remove a row of cells from each pack to transform them into 5S3P 6000 (lighter weight) and feel an improvement in flight characteristics?
IonX with Actro 32-3 / 100T gear

2/ Could I then still use the TP-205 Balancer?
Thanks,
Michel-Henri

hey , I wouldnt do that , they are kinda hard to take apart without breaking the tabs , probably the best thing to do , is buy a set of 2 5s1p 4600s , 20C cells really make the heli fly great ,
or I was looking at these on thunderpowers site
TP5000-5SX
5000 mAh, 5 cells (18.5V), 6-pin balancer connector
Rating: 20C (100A) continuous, 30C (150A) sustain, 50C (250A) burst Dimension: 42mm x48mm x160mm
Weight: 613gm
price 289.00
Hi Misskimo and thx for ur response,
My idea was to avoid investing into additional large packs, unless they can also be used on a Razor or similar size heli.
Ref. tabs: I seem to remember that they were soldered (?) together and long enough to cut right under the solder, with some tab remaining for further use in making small packs... Is this correct (as it's been a long time since I've had to remove the heatshrink)?
Also my thinking was that these cells being 12C, then 6000 ma x 12 = 72A which would be just enough Amps for (6 minutes of) hard 3D.
Let me know if any of this is sound.
Thx,
Michel-Henri

hey Michel , yeh ! you do have one chance to do this , and yes I can understand wanting to save a bit of cash and try new things , I flew 10s3p 6000 prolites , they got good power , but your at there max and cycle life will be short , the heli does weigh alot less , but I felt like the 8000s flew better , its the C rating thing that messes with pro lite 6000. like Chris S told me , the Ion flys good between 10 1/2 to 11 lbs ( 454 gram per lb) I do agree with that , some people like a real lite heli that darts around and changes dirrections , and some like the smooth mid air stops . which isnt hitting the high C ratings
also what blades you useing? what degrees of pitch you useing ? lacks power ? in wat way ? bogs down while doing tictoc?
with my 8000s , yes it seams kinda heavy , but it can rock and roll
Sorry for late reply.
I am flying it nowadays with Radix 690s (tapered MAH before that).
Tic-Tocs are only good during the first couple of minutes.
I pause flying after 5 minutes to rest the batts and ESC (for about a minute), then quit flying after another 2-3 minutes cause by then it's become too boggy for fun
Recharge needed around 5.5 to 6.5Ah.
Max pitch is around 10-11 deg.
Overall it feels a bit heavy yet "smooth" during flight ...
