I have a Roaptor 50 with a Webra 50 motor and this motor is getting hot as hell. It goes to 130 degrees centigrade (266 fahrenheit) with a number 5 (cold) glowplug. I'm running with 5% Nitro fuel and after half tank the motor stops of overheat and if you try to start it again it wont go because if I try to get fuel inside it (by covering the exhaust tip) the motor spits it back as vapors. The motor is quite new but it has about 10-15 maybe 20 tanks eaten.
Please Help!
i'd try a hotter plug Enya 3 or 4
And try another fuel.
My webra 52AAR never ran on anything less than 15%...
If i ran 5% fuel, it would overheat and make very poor power.
watch out, they're very intolerable to a lean run.

Thank's for the help wtr. I see you are from europe and I guess you bought your motor from Robbe too :). But i didn't quite understood the Last phrase: "watch out, they're very intolerable to a lean run. "

I think he means that damage may occur if the engine is overheated too much.
That is true of all engines but some are more prone to problems than others. I would agree that you need to go to 15% nitro fuel. That should help to cool it down and give lots more power than the 5%. Just don't try to lean the engine down too much. A little rich is better than lean any day.

More promblems. I took the raptor out for a "flight" and the motor keeps making me problems.
I thinck it must be something about the setup screws. So i took the problem synthetic.
I took the mixture screw to 4 rounds and it didn't start.
I then went to 3 round and started playing with the fuel screw. At 2 rounds (fuel screw) i could't get enough rpm to lift up the heli so i started going leaner at a step of 1/4 rounds. So from close to close i managed to lift up at 1 rounds on the fuel screw. But ifelt it going lean it didn't sound to well and it stoped of overheat.
I left it to cool.
I then went 2,75 rounds on the and 2 on the fuel screw. The results are almost the same as above just that i needed to go to i thinck 0.75 (!!!) rounds on the fuel screw. And then it overheated again and sounded too lean and stopped.
Then a very high speed wind started and got dark so i went out of there. :arggg:
This Webra motor was very tight since the first day. It's a very performant motor though so i guess it's a bit hard to set-up.
Some guys here told me to use more nitro fuel. Actually it was working good before with the 10% fuel. Now the tank finished and i took a 5% and since then the results are disastrous. But won't a higher nitro fuel give bigger rpms and more overheating???
Oh..another question. What is the temperature at wich a motor should run ?
I like to run my engines at about 180 - 190 Degrees F.
You should be able to put a finger on the backplate just after shutdown and it should be uncomfotably hot, but not injury hot. Keep in mind the temp will spike higher a minute or so after shutdown. Do the finger check just after shutdown.
I had a problem a while back with a 50 running lean at about half tank and it turned out to be the idle mixture setting. You should set your idle mixture as rich as you can get it and still be able to carry the heli out to the flight line after starting. If it loads up and dies too often at idle slowly lean the idle mixture but be careful not to get it too lean.

Hello,
The more the nitro, the lower the temp. You will have to open all your mixture screws. But this bigger amout of fuel going inside the motor will cool it down. I will alos advice you to use at least 15% nitro. 20% is even better. But no need of 30%. If you find some, try Powermaster 20% or Magnum fuel 20%. Becareful with the Magnum: it's giving a lot of smoke so you may think you have a very rich mixture but its not the case... Powermaster is better but just a small bit. Use an Enya 3 or 4 plug.
This should solve your problem. If not, check all of your fuel lines. The one inside the tank too. This last one is of very bad quality. Change it to a new one of good quality.

A thinner oil in the fuel also helps, as does 15-20% of GOOD nitro. I personally use Cool Power 20/20 in my 50, with an OS 50 Hyper, which is not very tolerant of lean runs, and have had no problem. I can hold my finger on the back plate indefinitely and still have much more power than I ever need.
