Well I feel I may actually be wearing the gimbals and sliders and so fourth on my 9C and most of the indicators have worn off as well even the indicating tics "white" are well,,, not there no more. Thinking of a replacement, I want to stay Futaba. The 9C Super is so easy to use and to program, should I buy a 14mz? Anyone else come from a 9C Super and how was the transition and learning curve doing so?

i did that like 2 weeks ago, your case kinda matches mine, so i'll tell you,.. when I first received it, it was quite overwhelming, soo many options so many variables, but what speeded up my learning curve was the fact that most (if not all) terms used in the radio match the terms used in the 9C, so I learned so fast.. your gonna love it. I had the extra cash for it, but if cost is conserning you I'd go for the 12z, ver similar technology, and the rotating dial will make you feel at home.

good luck.

If you can afford the 12 or the 14, then I say by all means go for it. They are great radios and offer a lot of programming flexibility, improved eCCPM programming over the 9C, improved resolution and the ability to change freqs on the fly so to speak. I went from a 9C to the 12 and am very happy with the purchase. Programming the radio is a bit more involved than the 9C, but it's nowhere near as complex as what the old 9Z was.

I have the 14MZ, Programming wise its the easiest there is (easy because its in clear text, no abbs), I also like the feature you can program any switch to any function.
You can even re-program the channels if you want.

You also have the benefit of using smart cards to upgrade the software.

Compared to the 9C its smoother controls all over.

One warning though, Ive run into trouble with the G3 receivers (range issues at 35Mhz), my testings have been stirring up things at futaba, so I suspect it to be addressed.

Overall, Im happy with it.

One tip, get an extra battery from start, battery time isnt too great if you change alot of settings (using the display).

My old 9ZHPS gave it up and I went for the 14MZ, it's nice!!!
My screen takes a heavy touch even after a screen cal. Use the wheel at times.
When I plan on no flying for a while I will send it in for checkup.
I do not regret buying it. If money is a concern the 12MZ would be my next
choice.

i think futaba deliberately made it that a certain amount of force is applied to touch the screen, maybe im wrong but if its easy to touch the screen then you could do that by mistake during flight, I also noticed it in my radio, and though, well that doesn't feel like a PDA, and it shouldn't, I just found that when I touch the screen, I needed that touch to be pointed (almost the tip of the finger) and KEEP the touch for approx half a second. now it always works for me this way..

its probably more convenient to change rates and similar settings using the wheel.

My screen takes a lot heavier touch than a lot of the 14's I have flown like Clint and HC's. I too will be sending it in at some point to get this corrected.

Of the two radios I own, the newest one has a very nice and smooth working touch screen. The older one required a lot more pressure to operate, so I sent it into service and they ended-up putting in a new touch screen. Now both work the same. YMMV.

Hi

I started out with a 9C (still use it for the sim) and after some time I decided to get the 14Mz. Out of all bad buys I've made during the last couple of years this wasn't one of them. Here is why:

1) We spend between $1000 and $4000 on a new heli that WILL hit the ground and need repairs to some extend (heck, some totally desintegrate on their maiden flight). Why not spend $2000 on something that you will be holding in your hands for a LONG time and won't do the chicken dance after 10 minutes?

2) It has all the features you can dream of. How many times did you get pissed at the "usual" 3 or 5 point throttle curve? Not to mention death traps like channel 7 going "live" after hitting TH? Those who use non futaba governors and the 9C know what I mean :arggg:

3) Its a damm neat, expensive, technological toy. We men love things that have dozens of buttons to push, touch screens and a sexy female voice warning you that you entered idle up mode :D

If you can afford it, by all means, buy it. You won't regret it

We are such a bunch of kids... I love it!

Anyway, that are my two euro cents. Some may disagree and are entitled to do so.

I used the "unrealesed" diagnostic program and increased my screen from the 20% it was set to and set it at 80% and now it work PERFECTLY!

If you are referring to my post, by all means print it. Thats how I convinced my wife

Actually she didn't need convincing as she knows that, even on the worst flying day, I always bring the Tx intact back home (even if its the only thing I bring home  )

Oh if she starts moaning about the price, start making a list of all her shoes and wardrobe (including prices). I bet she won't last 20 seconds before she sais: "Ok, Ok, do what you want."
