I have been doing some reading and I noticed that everyone is saying to use a Resistor plug cap and to remove the wire braid. Why? Just curious as I thought that it was the best setup.

Right now, I have the wire braid and the red plug cap with the full length antenna running out the back.

Will doing these mods present any issues?

Hi Scott.. I have the same setup as you on one of my Spectra's , and the wire braid with black cap on the other .. Both work well , just make sure theres no dags of wire hanging from the braid , that can act as an antenna....... Dont want any loose ends of braid at coil or plug cap either !!

No braid no resistor cap. Just revolution whip antenna up front. See my spectra pictures at:

Works absolutely fine and less steps to go through during assembly. Also if you don't do the braid right in fact it will cause issues rather than prevent them. I've seen a couple of people where the spark was jumping to the braid instead of the plug! 149 flights to date on my Spectra-g, never a failsafe issue yet so I can say with confidence my setup works.

The R plug cap and braid with about 10mm between braid and cap is the best insurance for sure.
I have had the spark jump into the cap from the braided shield but that was when braid was real close to cap.
No RFI or spark issues since maintaing the 10mm (3/8)gap.
