Are you going to be comparing and contrasting these two models? I'm going to have to make this very decision soon; which of these 2 to buy. I definately can't afford both.

Is it just me or there is very little choice when it comes to 5s or 6s 3000-4000mAh packs? (as recommended on outragerc page)

I am trying to find some packs for my (future) Fusion and I can't really find any in the UK. I've been looking at TP packs, Align and Voltz. They are either 2000 or similar or 5000 mAh.
I am going to buy a set or two of cheap lipos from HK, but I'd like to have one set of brand ones as well.

I am quite confused as I only have a 250 which just takes widely available and inexpensive 3s 850 mAh, so bare with me, I don't really want to make a big expensive mistake when buying lipos.

Ouch... Did you get all the electronics already?

This thing is gonna be a big tease for me, I just ordered it early to take advantage of the price. I'm not gonna be able to finish the build till the end of April or May... all thanx to my other addiction, skiing. I'm goin on a 10 day tour of VT in 2 weeks then off to Breckenridge for 5 days then back to VT every weekend for the remainder of the season... Till then its just a big static model.

yuppers got all my electronics except the FBL unit i might steal my 720 off my 500 or get the beast x

got

9080 cyclic 9188 tail
ice 80HV
2s lipo pack for RX
scorpion 4025-550
Edge 623 FBL blades
Volts packs 3300 x 4

so costing me $795 adding in a Beast X to ger her in the air..... not counting lipos......i won the edge blades, and with my HD discounts i saved alot, plus i bought the ESC brand spanking new for $105 so this build i saved a ton even the lipos i saved money i got one of my 4 for free with RH points only $62 buck for each Volts pack since one was free

Nice...

I was gonna get the 9080's but seems like they phased them out? Not listed anywhere but they were last month... So, now I'm on the fence about which servos I should get.

What are these RH points you speak of?

AnTi Taco

i had like 3000 ready heli points you get 1 point for every dollar you spend and sometimes more on holiday promos...and depending on your points you can get almost anything they sell with the points

yeah the 9080 and 9088 are phased out but they dam good servos there always gunna be bigger and better so i skipped the 9180 i wait till the frame rate of servos match the Tx/rx before i spend a 140 bucks on a servo again

If need not be 8V supply, MKS (Turnigy) BLS 950, BLS 980 should be a good combo too (IMHO), HobbyKing has good prices for them, roughly the half of Torqs :) (Turnigy BLS = rebranded MKS BLS).

eh, Id rather not put hobbyking servos on a $1500 helicopter. I think I'm gonna go with the JR DS8717's, they come in 3 packs for $335. I'd rather do that...

... I'm so bold ;). These are OEM manufactured by MKS and MKS are superior servos as far as I've read (the same for Turnigy BLS).

See the details in manufacturer's sites

Already have a futaba S9254 for the tail, came with my GY401 a when I built my 450.

The 8717's are superior to the 950's in every way except for weight... the 980's IMO don’t have enough torque for cyclic on a heli this size... my 450's hs-65mg's have almost as much torque.

But hey, to each his own.

 BLS 980 is TAIL SERVO, not cyclic one

No doubt 8717 is superior servo, but regarding the "superior ... every way" brushless motor have much longer lifetime than coreless (no brushes), titanium gears won't get slope easily compared to standard "metal" gears. Just my 2 cents. I agree, to each his own.

This is true... However I'm not concerned, coreless is just fine. As for the titanium gears, let’s just say I'm on the skeptical side. I’m sure it’s some grade of titanium alloy, but, to me it’s more hype than anything. High grade titanium alloys are not exactly easy to work with, titanium eats up tooling bits... and that makes parts composed of high grade alloys much more expensive.

I've found this article http://www.servocity.com/html/hitec_servos.html about gears wear resistance, written part is interesting. I assume that's why famous Futaba tail BLS-251 servo has mostly nylon gears http://www.servocity.com/html/bls-251_brushless_servo.html. (http://www.servocity.com/html/bls-251_brushless_servo.html)
Both BLS-251 and BLS-451(cyclic) http://www.servocity.com/html/bls-451_brushless_servo.html are brushless, Futaba declares 5 times longer lasting. On the other hand truth is, that for my flying style (newbie) that doesn't matter so much :YeaBaby:.
Btw, I forgot to mention, that Outrage Torq servos are made by MKS according to the Outrage specification ;). I've found Turnigy BLS's as budget friendly alternative to MKS, JR, Futaba, or Outrage ...

I repeat my question, that was overlooked:
What size of servo horns are required for Fusion (see http://www.servocity.com/html/futaba_arms_horns.html for specification)?

Chrlsdim, are servo horns (part pos. 129 in Fusion Manual exploded diagram) part of Fusion kit or should be bought separately (or as a part of servo kit)? Thanks.

I would probably get the "large" or "mega" wheel and drill my own holes exactly where you need them to not have any "subtrim" in the radio...

I have had both of these in my tool box for years...makes even easier to drill...
