Im gona check into the feasibility of a nitro CP , there R some really small engines out there    http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUJ71&P=0 lol may b a nice winter project. aint gona b easy . but SO cool!

if you think you can find an engine with muffler that weighs the same or less than a lipo, ESC, and motors, good luck.

yep! I do have 2 tiny micron lipos for sevos

dont forget fuel and fuels tank. but if someone does do it. wouldnt it be more powerful than the regualr elctric blade?

but then agian... good luck fitting all this onto a blade. pluss three servos.

engine : Weight: 3.95 oz (112g)

Lipo :2070 mAh, 3 cells (11.1V), 4-pin balancer connector
Rating: 25C (51A) continuous, 30C (62A) sustain, 50C (103A) burst Dimension: 24mm x33mm x107mm
Weight: 164gm

CC 35A ESC :(w/wires) 0.9 oz (24.5g)
Kinda hard to beat 188.5 grams man.
Besides, the micro choppers on nitro have been tried, found to fail and laid to rest.
just don't want to see you waste $ and time and not fly anything.

more powerful? not if you triple the weight... and halve the power too.
there's been a Trex modded as a nitro. Loud, heavy and terribly underpowered.
The engine linked above is a plain bearing motor, or bushing motor. No ball bearings.

way crazy rpm , ya wouldent gear it , and engine would hafta sit on its side but ya, very good point . I have a very nice mamba ready to put in when i get a few more things also....

engeine could be under body with heavy duty landing gear . would need no main gear really staight up to shaft. OK read above . u burst me bubble , gona go sulk now............ OK , Im done sulking My mamba motor will rock! this thing can push a 7 inch buggy to 60 real MPH

Wellllll, BCP pulls about 5-7A at 11.1V, thats around 70watts. So, you'd need about a 1cc engine. Maybe a Cox 0.049 if still available. UAW is still gonna go up though. Very small engines don't throttle well either, so you might have to go full power and rely on pitch change alone for collective. Would be interesting to see a BCP nitro conversion - would be amazing if it actually flew!!!!

yep , do u think i could go straight up to shaft, with no main gear? yep! http://www.coxmodels.com/prodinfo.asp?number=008901 no weight listed , but its tiny! No throttel tho. P.S - completly forgot about tail rotor. OK . not gona try this. LoL

OK OK , HOW ABOUT THIS : A TURBO POWERED MICRON.............................

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's been thinking about converting a CP to nitro.. I've got a Cox 0.49 on the nose of a 1/2 pattern plan I built from RCM plans years ago.. I've been eyeballing it for a nitro micro heli just for gits and shiggles...

How would you power and control the tail - proper miniturised pitch slider and torque shaft or rig up a controller for the existing elec motor tail drive.

Better still do away with the tail and fit a second contra rotating BCP head assembly to the rear and a modded and lengthed chassis a' la Chinook style egg beater  Wow! A Blade sized Chinook, now that would make the cover of the model mags. C'mon guys get dremelling :D

I'd have to run up some sort of belt drive tail - maybe the HDX300 setup or something off the Pixy Zoom..

A tandem micro would be very cool... I wonder if Joe Orlando's tandem mixer is small enough to utilize in a rig like that...

engine mounted underneath , with straight up to shaft would be so cool. Might rip the blades right off tho...................

You'd need some sort of gear reduction and a one way bearing.. I think I smell a SolidWorks project coming on.... :)

Just put the flux capacitor in mine. Problem is I don't have the 1.1 gigawats to get it back from 1985. Now i cant fly :( .

forgotten who makes it but someone out there makes a belt drive system for the tail... could just use a slightly higher hp motor and figure out a way to attached a belt to it :P but wait that won't work... constant speed tail with no pitch adjuster :P

Helidirect has a belt drive TR conversion for the CP..

There are lots of threads on adding a real tail rotor. I've done it myself
with my own ideas and others to end with a T-rex/Blade/NR3d
Rex tail ,Blade main mechanics , NR3D motor and ESC. 13+ amps WOT
hovers around 5-7. Can you say ROCKET?

Thought about this subject alot. Not a cp but a cp belt drive conversion. Not an 0.49 but 0.74. It has carb ,so throttle can be controled by servo.Howerver it would take 5 servos .& a tank. aslong as u have oneway bearing on the engine .It would be just fine to drive it right off the regular sized cp main gear.engine would have to mounted low between the skids . Just some of my thoughts . all comes down to
$$ & time . check this out for inspiration. http://www.helihobby.com/html/nitro_micro_helicopter.html . Its a bit bigger. but a good start
