Apologies if this has been covered before but I'm having a problem with my new Hawk pro...Namely...When I place the hex driver into the drive cup and activate the starter I get this awful clacking sound on each revolution.

Ive taken the engine out and the clutch mechanism apart and re assembled it to specs, every thing turns smoothly...good compression and the engine turns with no clacking so no problems there. I managed to start the engine yesterday and it ran great but I still have this racket going on as I engage the starter and try to fire it up.

The two slots in the top of the fan are fine and the small tee bar is engaging in those slots without slipping out, but when I apply the starter the clacking noise comes back...I tried a regular starter and even tried using the hex end driver in 2 different drills and its still there.

Whats happening here...HELP ????

Binik,

The Hawk/Falcon/Raven start system is noisier than helis with a torrington bearing start system, but the beauty of it is that once the engine starts, the shaft is totally disconnected from the drive system. You can reduce the noise to a minimum by making sure the alignment between the start system and the engine is optimised by loosening the engine mount to frame bolts, and engaging the start system, and getting the alignment as straight as possible while retightening the bolts.
