I was wondering what makes a heli turbine a heli turbine? I'm considering to try build a gasturbine engine, but I need more info first

The heli turbine has a drive system of some sort. The actual turbine is a turbine is a turbine is a turbine.

ok so all I have to do is to connect the bearing shaft or something to a gearbox?

there are two types of turbine. The plank type are designed for thrust and squash the exhaust gases into a "jet" stream and is therefore more refered to as a jet . The other type of turbine is a "gas generator", this is designed in such a way that the exhaust gases are slowed down and allowed to expand, thus rotating a second stage wheel connected to a gearbox, this is better know as a two stage gas turbine. There are also hybrids out there which attach a belt or gear system to the compressor wheel of a jet , these are better known as single stage jet turbines, the main difference with these is the exhaust gases are not compressed into a stream, but allowed to "escape" :) they all have their own advantages and dis advantages

They have turbo prop engines now for planks that swing a prop now too, Quique uses on in his Yak, Greg Alderman is building one with a Wren turbine.

But yes they all work the same, Suck Squeeze Bang Blow

BORING

I don't like turbine's for 3D planks. If I would get a turbine I'll either get a heli or some scale plank.

If you are wanting to build a turbine engine we have two alternatives for you. For the homebuilder who has a workshop with lathe, milling machine etc. it is possible to buy the plans for our MW54 Mk 1 and build either a thrust (jet) engine or a gas-generator (heli first stage) engine. If you don't have a home workshop it is possible to buy the MW54 Mk 3 kit as either a thrust engine or a gas-generator.

Wow, That is cool Sara, wish I had a milling machine.

Sara roughly how much do the plans go for?

18 GB Pounds including shipping worldwide - that's about 30 USD.

How does the gearbox work? Is it basically 2 helical cut gears? I might be able to make this myself too.

Yes, the gearbox is basically two gears, and before we made the production version a number of customers did their own.
