I got the Spectra G with the Tempest head. But the actual head I got is different from the drawings in the MA manual.

I did find a piece of paper inside bag 1B that shows the head I have.

How does that head relate to the rest of the instructions?

Also, on that paper, there is a mark "A" that means "apply a light coat of green locktite", and there is an arrow pointed to part 126-88. But part 126-88 seems already factory attached to the head and I can't take it off.

Please help. In my opinion, the instruction is pretty confusing.

You probably got the instructions for the Extreme head. You can got to Miniatures site and download the instructions for the Tempest head. Did your come with the new flybar carrier ?

I'm pretty sure I was looking at the right direction. I actually checked all of them.

new flybar carrier? That could be.

I just got it not long ago.

Ok, I uploaded a picture of the head I got in MY GALLERY. It is preassembled when I got the kit.

I also uploaded a pic of the instruction for the head. It's also in my gallery. If you look at the instruction, there is an arrow labeled "A" that means to apply loctite and it points to a joint.

But as you can see, that joint is already preassembled and I can't seem to take it apart.

A little confused.

Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks

That's definitely the Tempest one piece head. The previous version of the head was a two piece design I believe. It also looks like the Stratus flybar carrier.

Was this a new kit? I wasn't aware that MA was shipping Spectra's with the Stratus flybar carrier now. I thought it was just an upgrade...

http://www.miniatureaircraftusa.com/helicopterkits/1025_Spectra_G/1025_kit_documents.asp has the links for the manuals. You are looking for the Tempest head version for the head itself. The drawings in that Tempest head version show a two piece design. The head you have is a single piece, you don't have to assemble it. In those drawings there is a different flybar carrier design, you want the manual listed below for your flybar carrier.

http://www.miniatureaircraftusa.com/helicopterkits/1026_Stratus/1026_kit_documents.asp has the links for the flybar carrier portion.

I got it this summer, so it's pretty recent.

I just want to make sure my head is the one piece design.

Thanks for the help. I would've never been able to figure out that the instruction for myt Spectra G head would be found in a Stratus manual.

Actually, I think the Stratus manual would be very helpful in other areas too since it's of a much higher quality than the Spectra's.

You do have a one piece Tempest head. I think the only part that would be pertinent from the Stratus manual for your model is the flybar carrier installation.

I do like the Stratus manual (I work in technical manual development, fyi) and it would appear that MA's manuals have been maturing over the past few years. I believe the Stratus manual to be the most recent.

Looks like I missed the boat on the new flybar carrier. Mine was the older two piece block Tempest head with the standard flybar/arms.

Hey Paul

The two piece Tempest head block assemblies have been replaced with a one piece component. Dimensionally the critical aspects of the block are identical. The only difference in assembly is that the step where you put the two pieces together has been eliminated.

As far as the carrier, you have the Ultimate 3D updates which originated with the Stratus. This is the latest design. The drawing included describes how it assembles however as a couple of people pointed out you can look on page 133 of the current Stratus assembly guide to see a step by step assembly of it.

hope this helps.

I also have a Tempest Head question.
My G has a Tempest FAI head.
I would like to know what setup is best for smooth flight and hovering.
ie what paddeles ane what weight in them, also where should all the linkages be.
No 3D for Spectra n me just smooth flying.

paddles - pro2 or pro3 or SAB - 40gms
leading edge blade arms
use the extension under 0107 ball
use the mixer hole closest to the mixer arm pivot for the ball link up to the blade arm
use the mixer hole fartherest from the mixer arm pivot (or on the outside of the mixer arm) for the ball link down to the swashplate
set the flybar arm control in the middle hole
use 2 sixty durometer o-rings in the damper cavities
blades - if you don't care about inverted, get some semi-symmetrical blades about 205gms, 700 or 710mm

paddles - pro2 or pro3 or SAB - 40gms (not sure)
leading edge blade arms (check)
use the extension under 0107 ball (not sure)
use the mixer hole closest to the mixer arm pivot for the ball link up to the blade arm (check)
use the mixer hole fartherest from the mixer arm pivot (or on the outside of the mixer arm) for the ball link down to the swashplate (wilco)
set the flybar arm control in the middle hole (check)
use 2 sixty durometer o-rings in the damper cavities (not sure)

Now with a personal touch.(ball with longer thread and lock nut)
Still some more to do.
Your advice Carey would be appreciated.
I have some issues with the delta ofset as the linkages have popped of in transit or spooling up. I think your extension under 0107 suggestion may fix this but my brain has gone into overload and shut down for the moment.

Just checked the paddle weight and they are 40g, While I ahd them off I slipped on some flybar weights and have put them all the way in for now.
Where can I find instrictions for a Tempest FAI head.
I looked on the MA site but was unsucessfull.

How come there is no PDF for the Tempest FAI head.

I have the Tempest FAI manual. It has all the head info embedded within the heli build sections. IT has all the written pertinent info but no pictures..

Also on the head setup I have my FAI head setup the same as above only I run the -5.5 Delta on mine. INstead of the 6mm long ball I use the 8mm ball.. It also tends to straighten out the linkage some . I also experimented with different flybar lengths and found on my ION-X that the short (473mm) handled better.. I think that was because I run high headspeed all the time, 1950-2000rpm...

OMG!! Perfect, thanks Carey! I moved my FAI head off my Spectra though, it's on my Tempest right now.

I'm toying with the Extreme head for now. Is there any documentation about moving the flybar control arms to the non-parallel orientation? (the change so the control arms don't hit the head when the sticks are in the corners).

Sidenote: was good talking with you at IRCHA about this various stuff.
