Hi Guys,
I recently purchased a DX7se, this radio is good enough for me, total newbie, still trying to hover.
The only thing I do not like about it, is the screen, no backlight so I find it hard to see, guess it’s my old age.
Anyway has anyone on this board done the backlight mod, saw an ad on ebay sellers supplies the required items, I would have to open up the radio and I guess connect / solder some wires…again I am seeking advise from people who has performed this mod themselves, so was it easy. was the end result worth it, how does it affect the battery life, I am using the stock battery that came with the radio
Thanks

No you are not. Many people would like to see a back light. There is a mod floating around to add back lighting, later I will see if I can find it.
You do know you can adjust the screen contrast, right ?

I played with the contrast, but still sometimes have to tilt the radio to see the display, The mod thats for sale on e-bay is not expensive, I just want to make sure it's not to difficult to do myself, the other option is to send my radio to the vendor, but the turnaround time is about 2 weeks.

I am thinking the same for my brand new 9303. You have to remove the actual LCD panel and remove the backing from it which looks like tin foil. Then you put an EL panel in place of it. If you are not good with that sort of thing, you can easily damage the LCD panel.

I"ve thought about the samething for my 9303. Some reason it just screams "WARRANTY VOID" if I do that. :-)

For anyone interested, I have recently done this mod on my DX7 and written up detailed instructions which can be found on my web page (link below).
To my knowledge, it will void the warranty, but if you are comfortable with a soldering iron it is pretty straight forward if you follow the instructions step-by-step and have a little patience.

Just did this mod on my 9303.
Go to DFXHobbies.com and read the reviews about this mod. I wrote one of the reviews after doing this mod and couldn't be happier with it.
Im sure the mod it almost the same for the DX-7 and I believe it is slightly cheaper for the DX-7 kit.
You wouldn't be disappointed!!!!!!
I would not order this from any other vender, This kit is tried and tested and give excellent results.

"Yeah I also used the mod from DFXhobbies, its great and works, very nice. Search for JR 9303 Backlight and look at the one I just completed, It does take some time but very simple. If your new to taking things apart and soldering, and circut boards I would get some help. You can mess things up, but if you take your time and FOLLOW instructions then you' ll be good.

I did this mod on my DX7 a couple of months back (kit ordered from DFXHobbies). The install was not hard, +1 on following the instructions. As for battery life I noticed a little degradation but still don't need to charge the stock battery more often than ~twice a month so no big issue here.
One thing to note though: sunlight readability is not affected by this mod. Outside, I start seeing the backlight only when it's too dark to fly anyway. It helps primarily with indoor flying and bench setup work.
