View Full Version : Raptor 90SE Clutch Gap?
I have found the clutch liner to clutch gap on a stock 90SE to be way too loose, the engine really has to wind up to start engaging.
What should the spacing be between the liner and clutch when re-lining a clutch bell?
Thanks, RobO

I'm not sure of the exact spacing off hand, but if you feel the gap is too large (I feel it is too, but I'm not going to change mine until the clutch breaks or I burn out the clutch.) place a piece of card stock or copy paper behind the new liner when you are placing the liner in the bell and you should be good to go.

Yep, that will do it. The large gap has been an on and off issue with the 90SE. I'd fix it sooner than later as the clutch ends up giving up from the stress of being over extended.
I know it should be fixed, the question is; How thick should the card stock or paper be??
We can measure the inside diameter of the clutch bell and the outside diameter of the clutch. What should the difference be for proper engagement?

try .007"-.009" thickness. Trial fit first to acquire shoe gap of .008-.010". Stock shoe clearance is about .017-.020"
I've run the stock clearamnce with no big issues but reducing it may add longevity to the clutch.

Stephen, you are correct! The stock clearance is about .020". I was thinking about half of that would be about right.
Thank you very much!!

In order to achieve the perfect gap, wrap the clutch 2x with electric tape. If it's not snug when you insert the clutch into the bell, you need to raise the liner. Most people use paper. I prefer soda cans. Just make sure to mold the liner/spacer in place with the taped clutch while the glue sets.
BTW, the electric tape method works on any heli.
