I'd like to know what fellow MX400ers are using or prefer.

Thunder Power 2100 15c LiPo. It seems to be able to handle things just fine. Especially if you are just using the default HeliMax 2580 motor with the default wood blades.
I am only into forward flight and not aerobatics yet but I have never seen the default HeliMax 2580 and default blades pull more than 21 Amps out of the battery during a max climb at +11 pitch and 100/80/100 throttle curve. 21 amp draw on a 2100mah battery equates to about a 10C discharge so 15C has some breathing room considering the 15C rating is for a continuous 15C draw. I am only into forward flight though and tested it with a simple vertical climb so if you throw the thing around a lot I am sure it could pull more than 21 amps but probably not much more.

Do these batteries have short circuit protection and low voltage protection? I have heard from some sources that any li-po battery or cell shipped to an end customer has to be protected but then again I have heard the opposite too. I couldn't find any information about it.

There was nothing attached to the connectors that could be called "short circuit protection". just the usual cardboard back with see-thru plastic front.

I sent Thunder Power and email and they said that the batteries do not have any kind of protection on them. They expect the ESC to have that capability. I think that is the norm for these Heli batteries. Unfortunately if you have a short in your ESC or the battery shorts when not connected to the ESC your battery could burst into flames.
I am very surprised that battery companies can ship lipo batteries without protection. Be VERY careful with them. Don't ever put one in your pocket that is for sure.

I just ordered and received the Align 2100 16c packs. I'm quite impressed with the power of these batteries. I only got to hover around the front yard so I could not get a good feel for performance but the power was nice and she climbed out effortlessly. I've been using Common Sense 2100 batteries but I busted one up on a crash and it slowly got weak, plus I did not notice the small cut in the cell. The second battery has gotten considerably weak, so that's why I asked to see what you guys like...

I'm useing epower 2200 12c on an align 430l 3550kv and 315 cfs. Geting about 8 to 10 min per flight with 2800rpm max hs. and about 15min on 315 woodies. they may not have the 400 cycle life but for the $38 price tag its a great bat.
