Thanks Chris and CJ...yeah getting very comfortable with "me"...have always been comfortable with the turbine and knew I could never fly it up to it's potential...but I am getting better with it...I wanted to be piroflipping it by IRCHA a month ago but can't get the nerve up to try it...Alan Jr. piroflipped it in the first 5 minutes he flew the Bergen Turbine last year...so I know it will do it... :D
But yes...I decided I needed to quit being a wimp with the Bergen Turbine and step up my flying with it a notch...I have been babying it the past year or so...but that time is over! It is time to show that the Bergen/ Wren MW54 Turbine is the "Ultimate Aerobatic Turbine Helicopter" out there…

Hey Greg,
Very, very nice :noteworthy
Do you remember the max EGT from that flight? Rather interested to see how close to max performance you got from the Wren.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve...I have the Wren detuned (through FADEC) to a max of 140K RPM...I could go up to 160K RPM but would probably be too much power! I was thinking about going up to 145K..but then thought...Why??? :D
Max Temp I have ever seen during flight was about 560C...The Wren just purrs along oblivious to what is going on around it...

Greg, just out of curiousity, what are your throttle curves like for normal and idle up? Also do you run a lower headspeed in normal than idle up? What is your fuel burn? Thanks. Craig B

Craig...will send you my throttle curves tonight...
Yes I run a 1450 head speed in normal...but I never fly in normal...as soon as I pick it up I switch into Idle up...my Idle up speed is around 1600- 1650...
I limit my flights to a max 8 minutes...I feel it gives me a safety margin...I have flown to 11 minutes without flaming out...I have NEVER got the endurance as everyone else? I have even hovered an entire tank in normal and it flamed out at a little over 12 minutes...Chris on the other hand can hover his at a 1450 head speed for almost 19 minutes? I have no idea on why mine seems to burn so much more fuel...it just does! :badair:

Greg was SPANKING his Bergen Turbine on Friday in the rain at the SE Event at Mac Hodges last weekend. There were bout 20 people who saw it and every one of us agreed it was the wildest Turbine flight we ahve ever seen, and to top that, it was before coffee was even ready in the AM! Greg is pouring it on!!
 :smokin:
