I have just fitted my new tank and thought I would share something I have tried that seems to work well.

I got fed up on the old tank of those rubber bumpers falling off after the first few flights and then the double sided tape getting soaked with oil and fuel and getting compressed to the point that the tank was resting on the carbon baes plate so I tried using a piece of that blue neoprene receiver wrap folded over several times into a rectangle that I then put under the tank. I had to strap the velcro ties tightly to avoid movement as the neoprene is not adhesisve and I did not want to glue it to the tank or the Stratus base plate however it worked!!

When I got the new tank I took the same piece of Neoprene out from under the old tank and cut a hole in the middle for the locating lug on the bottom of the tank to go through. This works even better now as the tank is held in place with the lug going through the neoprene into the grommet. I just make sure that the plastic ties are done up enough to pull the lug down into the grommet and it works great. No replacing of gooey old tape and the neoprene stands up to fuel much better.

Id you can get hold of thicker neoprene then you would only need one layer which would be slightly neater of course.

Use a mouse pad. That is what Bobby Watts uses. He cuts strips from a mouse pad and goops them to the tank. I am using the Zeal tape and it works great.

Are you using the nylon tie wraps that came with the tank? Tank should not move with nipple on tank bottom in the hole on the frames. The tie wraps cinched down.

David,

You are somewhat right- I used neoprene, but didnt cut out a mouse pad. I actually used a piece of neoprene from McMaster Carr. This worked ok, but I think I am just going to use double sided tape when I re-install my new tanks.

That is no problem. Bert and I had tanks with broken nipples on the bottom, and they worked just fine- no issue at all. Just make sure the zip ties are pretty snug and the tank won't move one bit.
