View Full Version : Any interest in symmetrical plastic blades??

Popped over to the prototyper's shop this morning to pick up some parts for work and my guy over there presented me with a couple plastic blades he'd molded off a symmetrical wood blade. This particular set is kinda heavy, and just for me to try out, but he said he'd make another set and mix in some microballons to get the weight down or even try a different type of plastic.
So now that the molds are made, I'm considering sending a couple sets to some people to try out and then maybe have a run of 50 or so sets made up if there's any interest in 'em.

Dont plastiblades makes the symmetrical already?

They'll fit either the CP or CP Pro and probably other micros as well.
Not sure if plastiblades has the symmetrical's or not. I know a lot of folks don't care for the added weight of the plastiblades so I'm trying some different plastics/fillers to get them as close to the weight of the woodies as possible, but a little stronger.
I'm not trying to make any money on this, just a bit of giving back to the community and something else to keep me occupied. :)

I'm running symetrical plasti blades on my CP. I'd be glad to try/compare them and tell you what my findings are.

I would love to try a set of symmetricals. I have been flying the symmetrical woodies and cut down t-rex blades. I love how cheap/stable/duurable the trex blades are, but they are too heavy and can't manuever like the e-flite blades. The normal woodies are nice, but they usually break pretty quick. A compromise would be perfect. How are they coming along so far?

Count me in. I just split a pair of woods.

I've got one set of prototypes in hand. They need some minor Dremel massaging to clean up some rough spots and then I'll balance 'em and bolt 'em up. They're probably twice as heavy as the woodies and at this point, I'm worried they're going to place excessive centrifugal forces on the blade grips at the 2050 RPM I run my head at. If the grips had thrust bearings in 'em, I wouldn't sweat it.
I'll give 'em a try and see how they fly. The next set is going to be a slightly different plastic and will be filled with micro balloons to try and lighten 'em up. Hopefully they won't be so strong they break head parts in a crash, but not as fragile as the woodies or as expensive as the carbons..
Hmmm.. I wonder if I could vacuum form some blades out of polycarbonate or lexan.. They'd be pretty durable and very light.. I'll ask the shop about that when I head down next week.

Me too. I tried a set of plastiblades and the were perfectly balanced and tracked dead on. They are a little heavy though so I'd love to try a different mod. Please let me know.

Will do. I don't get down that way but 3-4 times/month but I'm going to keep investigating new materials. Thankfully the shop owner is a good guy and is letting me "borrow" the guys in the shop from time to time to help out with this.

In answer to the question, I have semi/symetrical plastic blades, but was not aware of full syms. I would also love to try them. Count me in.

Not going to investigate this any more. The set I have is too heavy for my headspeed and cause the grips to bind up. I've taken to cutting down Trex450 blades instead. Cheaper than the OEM sym woodies and track much better..
I'm thinking about selling my CP and concentrating on my Rexxy's and my Raptor...

I understand. Thanx for letting us know! Have a good one.
