I had a weird flight issue with my #1 Intrepid gasser last weekend. It was an intermittent failure of the tail when commanded right, it just wouldn't respond. Many skipped heartbeats later I found that a left command worked fine. On the ground it worked flawlessly, no binding whatsoever, the S9254 servo was just warm & had no issues. Yet the problem persisted. I was informed by a pilot at the club that the tail grip bearings were binding in one of the grips. So I took the grip off at home & compared it to another I had and sure enough there was a major difference in rotation ability. I have as yet to test fly it, cause of other issues (not Bergen related)
So...how can these bearings be removed to clean & grease?? Should they be greased or are they run with oil?

Thanks

The blade grips are aluminum and the bearings steel. Heat them in a 325 degree oven for 10 minutes and the bearings should drop right out.

On a similar note, is it worth buying something like "The Greaser" to lube bearings, or is there a simpler/better way?

I have the greaser but should these bearings be greased or just a light oil after cleaning?? ...Thanks Paul

Using the greaser is just fine. You can also install the bearings on a shaft and spin it up with a drill to remove the excess grease before assembly.
