I am planning on building an Outrage 550 and would like your opinion on a Scorpion motor. I have an HK-4020 1100KV that I was planning on using for another heli that will not be built now, but was wondering if the 4020 1390KV would be a better fit. I am not a 3D king but can do some stuff like loops, rolls, flips at the moment.
My set up:
Outrage 550 G10
Scorpion motor?
Castle Pheonix ICE100
Hyperion Atlas DS2XSMD cyclic servos
Hyperion Atlas DS20GMD tail servo
CSM SL630 gyro
6S1P 5000mah 30C batteries
Maxpro 4A UBEC
Airtronics RDS8000 radio equipment

The 1100kv should run fine with a 14 - 15 tooth pinion for 6S setup and your flight style.
I fly the 1390 on a 12T for 2250 RPM. Also big sky sport and mild 3D stuff.
Maybe test the 1100kv first, if you feel your getting too much bog, go with the 1390. Or you could increase to an 8S setup with the 1100.

I'm real pleased with my 1100 on my 550, big pinion but seems nice and efficient

Thanks for the replies so far. Appreciate your first hand input from the experience with these motors. I think I will try the 1100kv with a 14 tooth pinion (about 2200 head speed) and see how I like it. With the ICE100 I can always move up to the 1390kv and keep it 6S if I am not happy with the 1100. I believe this would be cheaper than going 8S with the 1100 since I would already have the 6S Lipos, although 8S is easier on the electronics. To many decisions! :arggg::arggg::arggg: I find setting up a heli is kind of like building a PC, you had better do your homework and make sure everything is compatible or you will never be happy with the final product. It is also good to build so you have some ability to upgrade if you want to. Do many of you have the "Tim the Toolman Taylor Syndrome"? I have been flying 450s up to this point and now I got to have something bigger.

You might say that. :rolling
I went from an overly modified and hopped up Blade 400 to the Outrage 550. Now that was a step up.
Everyone at the club has a Trex or a Raptor and I wanted something different and the Outrage was a perfect fit. When I first saw it pre-production in the RC Heli mag I just knew that it was the one for me. A year later, I can't wait to get more air time. Once the snow, wind and sub zero weather are gone that is.
Very unique bird. Can be setup in so many ways for the right feel. And I found myself trying to mimic the capabilities I was experiencing on the sim. I wanted the heli to fly just like that. To my amazement the heli surpassed the ability of the sim model I was using.
Even so, it can be flown with a gentle and smooth touch or equally capable of flying as hard as you can dish it out.
The best way I can describe it, is to say it flies light. The Blade 400 was a great step up from coaxial, but the 550 flies as if it was lighter than the B400. For something of its size to fly so light is adrenalin making in a big way to a first time pilot of this class of heli. Others at the field try to emulate the maneuvers I do with the 550 and they just don’t have the punch. More often I hear that bog down sound from the other heavier less powerful heli's at the field.
The Outrage 550 gets noticed. And the feedback from spectators and fellow flyers have been:
"That heli just looks angry, even when on the ground"
"Hold on, he’s gona fly the 550 again, I gota see this"
Makes me smile every time.

I think the Scorpion 1100kv is a fine choice. That's what I'm running. The 1390 will have a bit more power, but the 1100kv was my choice b/c I was considering going 8S setup in the future.
I think the 14 tooth is ok, the 15th is alot better IMO, but that's for hard 3d, or in my case, hardly any collective management hehe! It is harder on the packs though.
btw I really like my Outrage when the HS is >2300rpm. So if you're sport and mild 3d, a 2000rpm-2200rpm head speed will be plenty and be easier on your packs etc...
I do find the 1100kv to be a little out of it's powerband though, at least it seems to me, when I was on the 14th and running modified throttle curves. Running a flat 90/95/100 curve in my idle up's was better though.
You will be fine :)
have fun with it.
