anyone have some opinions on this camera?

I'm going to need a 10mp point and shoot soon for a job in which the client is requesting 10mp so my 6mp Nikon won't cut it.

anyone ever hooked up an rc switch to the trigger button on one? I just did it to my Nikon and it was some very intricate disassembly and soldering which wasn't fun.

you may want to talk to blip.co.au about USB switch and which camera they support.

Dennis, if it is just for a particular job, maybe the easist thing is to just hook up a servo for the trigger. The plate I made has an SS rod hooked into the wrist-strap "hole" on the camera side, and then a rubber band at the other end to tension it. The bevel around the shutter handles horizontal location. The camera needs no mods, and undoing the rubber band removes everything without a trace, handy if you only need to use the camera temporarily for AP (or sell it leter :)).

I've only seen pics of the LX2 but have an LX1 and it's a pretty intricate disassembly to get to the shutter trigger. The LX2 to me looks physically identical to the LX1. I've tried on two occassions to pull mine apart and ended up stopping before getting to the shutter mechanism. No help here... :? I couldn't figure it out. Somewhere Greg McNair posted some pics of his shutter setup. I ended up using an external servo and set it up similar to his.

Maybe I'll try again...

Another one you might consider is the new Canon A640, which is also 10MP. I just got one of these. Lots of nice features. :)

NO offense, but I would buy the A640 any day over the optio.

Had several optios in the past, the A620, 630, 640 series are just a much better camera than the optio's. Better lens, better features.

Shutter priority, aperture priority, full manual control, and 2fps in continuous mode until you can fill your card.

Of course I'm biased as I shoot an A620 after returning many optio's. :

The A640 also has a bayonet mount to allow use with adapter lenses, like a wide angle, for instance.

It also allows you to pick how many continuous shots you want so that if you need 10 shots it will take all 10 with a single press of the shutter button.

a620/640 is a great camera. bit heavier than optio, but ifyou can carry it, go with it. you need to run blip's USB switch though. not bad option.

Interesting. I don't believe the A620 has that, must be new.

Under what menu is that?

And all of these have a very standard DC input connector, so you can easily drop the 4AA's and run it of your downlink 5v or whatever.

Saves 4 ounces and puts the camera into the 8 oz range.

I am running blip's usb switch on mine and the software finally seems to be sorted out and running fine.

I have the Optio A10 and I am fairly disappointed with it honestly. It is much harder to bring home good pics with it on my E-Raptor or in my hands, I guess my 10D spoiled me pretty badly or the Optio just sucks or something. I would definitely do it differently if hindsight was foresight.... :DOH
