Pulsing Motor

About 4th flight now. When spooling up, the motor sounds like it is pulsing. When it happens, the tail and everything remains the same. After getting on up to speed it will do it a few more times then really just stop. I read a thread where someone was saying this is common with a new Hacker motor and it will stop.

I've checked all my connections and I think my equipment is spaced out enough on the frame. Any advice on this?

It sounds like the governor gain setting is a bit too high. Try dropping it about 5%.

It should be in your castle link settings. Hook up the esc to the computer with the castle link. There are a lot more settings in there now for heli setup than used to be.

I'd be interested to know what your current settings are and if dropping 5% clears up the issue.

I am not even sure if you can modify the gain with the stick method.

I think the gain is one of the newer settings they added this summer specifically for heli's.

The link is nice, you can see all your settings on the screen, and you can save that setup to your PC. If you have to replace or upgrade your ESC, then you can just reload your saved parameters and not have to try and guess at remembering what those settings were that made your heli fly so good, or find that cocktail napkin that you wrote them down on :)

Know anyone who's got 'em in stock? A quick search didn't find any and CC's site says backordered for several weeks. Guess I'll roll the dice and call the LHS later...

You might be disappointed ...

I tried updating a CC85HV and found it wouldn't work with the link ... the firmware is not upgradeable.

I don't know about a vanilla CC85 ... you might want to check. I'm not sure what exactly the differences are between it and the 85HV (high voltage).

you need to power the CC85HV to work with the link. connect it through a powered receiver/ubec. USB is not enough to power the esc.

There's only one Phx 85, and that is the Phx HV 85. Every single one is totally upgradeable. You either have a faulty unit, or you aren't doing it right.

You have to connect your flight packs to the CC to get it to be recognized by the castle link.

Personally I would definitely stay with the older 1.23 firmware, I know of quite a few people including myself who have had a lot of problems using the 1.5x firmware.

GOV mode using my CC-110 on my E-RaptorCam using the 1.23 firmware works great.

Gary is right, the pulsing is due to gov mode. Once you get the head up to speed it should stop. Other option is for you to run AIR mode and you will not have the pulsing anymore.

Ah so ... my mistake. I thought it was a little strange that it wouldn't talk to the programmer like the others. I'll do as you say ... apply power and see if that works.

I got the PHX-Link. Do you have to upgrade to 1.5? to get the gov gain setting? Mine doesn't show that option. I looked under all three tabs.
