Hi all..I've been wondering around which one is best to choose of these 2 Walkera Heli's, I know that NONE of you would ever recommend me the Walkera but I don't feel like looking for anything else.. kinda hard to get anything like Blade CP or E-sky, sparepart finding problem...

Dennis,

I started with dragonfly #4, also owned a #36 for a short time I even flew it (yes forward flight) Walkera got me hooked on heli. I still fly the #4 at my work in doors and some at the park. My good machine is the Trex 450 (see gallery). I will also not recomend the #36 or the #60. Reasons are 1st, use that cash to get G3 sim (no parts required to learn) cost is equal to the #36, 2nd save your $ get a Trex 450xl, watch Finless bob's videos and visit helidirect.com for your parts or anyother Align vendor... don't let my yesterdays be your tomorrow. O saber FP parts can be used on walkera #4.

I own the Walkera 37. You have to have the brushless motor and ESC for it. You must move the tail servo to the rear boom. Then re-adjust the radio. And of course check all nuts, bolts and screws. Having done that it flys great. I sold my Blade CP because I was going nuts with the tail going all over the place. I couldn't afford the T-Rex (still can't) so I went this route. I have no complaints at all. I was (and still am) a beginner but this heli has helped me learn. I can now hover, nose in, tail in, foward, backward, side to side fly. I am not ready for the loops and all that good stuff yet. I think the helis take a bad rap because its the first one people buy and it is really not good for them. I am now putting the Align motor and ESC in it and we will see what happens.

hello all
my 2 cents worth. the walkera 36 is most probably the best value for money heli out there. easy to fly (i started on the 36. my first heli.) i progressed from first time flier to the point where i can now fly class 2 patterns almost everything right side up in 4 months. and i must say at about another helis price in spares, which was expected. awesome stuff. i have also upgraded the whole heli with all the ali stuff in the head and tail and i bought it already brushless and lipo. the only thing i must add, i flew it from day one with my jr x2610 the wlkera tx does not do it for me. i bought a trex 450 xl upgraded the head and tail aswell and well needless to say its no contest. you cannot in all fairness compare the two. but the walkera 36 still remains my heli of choice to anybody starting of with these machines. enjoy these helis they are great
bye

I agree with you zeus and rambo... the 36 is a great cruser heli to fly. My troubles with it were the replacement parts on shelf and cost per item, Trex xl chassis is 15.oo, 36 chassis was 19.oo, trex main blades are 13.oo, 36 blades are 15.oo, trex main shaft comes in 3 pack for the price of 1 in the 36 pack... and most every time Align parts are on shelf. Don't get me wrong, the 36 I did enjoy learning the maintence and the thrill of hovering and forward flights. Looking back now the 36 will get you flying heli and I would almost like to have one today. It's just that the 36 was costing me more to repair than a new Align kit or for that matter a new 36 complete. I admit crashing and learning for me didn't walk the same side of the street... or I mean flight area... lol OK, it's back to the sim for me. Do well and enjoy.

I really like the walkera 60. However the electronics are crap.
Some people pull them straight out of the box and fly whereas others cant get the electrics working properly. Luck of the draw I guess.
My brother has a 60 which I've been helping him to upgrade (all electronics) It also looks really nice to. (with the exception of cheesy canopy stickers)

His Walkera60 (sometimes all ready to fly) $180 Australian

My barebones T-rex $350 Australian.

Incidently I was looking at the Venom Nightranger 3dXL the other day and I noticed it was almost identical to the Walkera 60! Read somewhere that Walkera actually makes them for venom.

Funny thing is...On these forums, the VNR3dXL is a popular and much loved heli, the Walkera 60 is a swear word!

I just purchased my first heli, a Walkera Dragonfly E22 6 Ch. 6 channel may be too advanced for me but I fly 3D foamies so ill get the hang of it.

Is it any good, or did I waste some money? :?

The little Helis such as the Walkera 22e can be more difficult to fly. However it is a good choice for beginners because its cheap! (and you will crash sooner or later). Put some time in on a simulator, it helps a great deal. In my opinion the biggest weakspot on the walkera electronics is the servos. (made by fisher price). Change these for some Hi-tec HS 55's (cheap and good) and dont listen to all the Walkera bashing that you hear. they are as good as any other heli in the same size/type catagory.

The Walkera 22e has a head assembly fashioned after the MS Hornet's, so it is simular to a known machine. Tail rotor assemblies can be changed with Blade CP, Walkera, E-sky... I used a set of 22e main blades on my Blade today to fly in the breasy winds and had a great time (the narrow cord and weight help). So I think you didn't waste your money. My rant is that they will fly great in stock form. Do change the servos asap (use HS55, or GWS ?? stay on the low cost). Use a SIM, follow a instruction path, learn to preflight check, THESE CAN BE DANGEROUS! Find out where the others get together and fly and be there. I do like Walkera, I wish they packaged the parts in 2's or 3's to help beginers like me well I'm 14months old now and getting better... hehe Have fun & take your time.

Man they need to add a Walkera room like RC-Universe has. They can't even spell this thead right (Walkera is a threat?). There are too many walkeras not to have one. I converted my DF4 to a GWS/JR setup and still fly it sometimes.

Anyone know of a stronger head for the DF4?

I like walkera to .I have a 22e but I can't hover it. Come to think of it my problem
could be servo response time. It seems like the heli can't keep up with the stick inputs. Any thoughts on the 68B walkera.
Keep it up or bring it down gently. boom striker

Hi john54

It's very easy to set the tail servo up on the tail boom.
You will need a tail servo holder like the ones on a the align T-Rex. and just use the existing linkrod.
The seesaw system on the walkera is sloppy so doing this will definately improve your tail.
A faster servo would give your tail and your gyro better performance.

Bought my Walkeras locally (before I knew any better) for the equivalent of $200 for a #4 and $600 for the 60B, heh (http://www.modelsandall.co.za has prices if you don't believe me). Spent at least another $400 in parts and upgrades. :arggg:

You might want to edit the title to "Walkera Thread" though.

threat (thrět) Pronunciation Key
n.

1. An expression of an intention to inflict pain, injury, evil, or punishment.
2. An indication of impending danger or harm.
3. One that is regarded as a possible danger; a menace.

I bought a T-Rex 450 XL and basically spent about $300 just making it reliable. My brothers walkera 60 was much more reliable until I ironed out all the weakspots on the T-Rex!

Just got a 52! I agree, the Walkeras are tough to pass up but they really need a lot more attention to keep them flying.
I had a hell of a time building and setting up my T-rex, and doubt I would've been able to finish it withou a ton of help from Finless, so I'm sure the DF's can't be much worse. Just gotta ditch the cruddy radio and brushed motor.
I gotta admit, I wouldn't have gotten the little bugger if it hadn't been for the reviews on other sites, the vids on youtube and the dirt-cheap parts prices! I realize that it will never compare to the Rex, but boy that little sucker looks cool! Not to mention I'm about $2000.00 deep into my trex and just got it hovering! (of course all upgraded, charger, power supply, big parts grab bag, blah blah blah!) My 52 only cost $127.00 shipped! I'll be stoked if the stupid thing flys Fig. 8's in my garage!

I saw the 36 and the 60 side-by-side and would have to say the 60 is much nicer (with all the bling if possible). The frame is stronger and it looks a little better put together. Overall you can't realistically compare the trex with any DF, but you are definately sticking it to the man if you get one to fly well!!! :Bang <--- rockin' the new micro!
Anyone else take the plunge on one of these?

I have a 22e , 36, two 52's, 5-4, and a 5-8. All of them fly great The 36 has a brushless esc and upgraded servos. The 22e is still my favorite though it is so fun to fly and I find them all very easy to fix and mod.
The only problem I have had is the motor on the 52's -- here is the cheap fix for the 52 go to your local hobby shop and pick up a 40,000rpm slot car motor. jam it in there and back in the air you go with power to spare. Also on the 52 if you dont really have an understanding of it the setup is a ***** cuz they do not come with even manageable settings from the factory. This guy did an awesome job on a little tutorial to help http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=562295
Stop hating on the walkera's There fun and inexpensive I probably have less in my 6 walkera helis than most of you have in your tx.

Hi all,
I'm also new here and i own a DF60 with a brushless and the metal head upgrade, a birthday present by my wife last December :D.
Read a lot of BAD news about it and got pretty discouraged at first, but i got it steady now, also thanks to the support over here (newbie section)
It actually caused me to become a Heli freak, so that's a good thing!

Did a lot of tuning, and first i did was:

- disassembled the heli completely and used CA (plastic) and loctite (allu/steel) on all screws.

Thanks Finless for your fantastic videos!!!
pointing out what it's all about.

- the guide-wheel bearing in the tail was not centered properly so the guide-wheel was stuck in the plastic holder and rubbing the belt, centered the bearing to fix it, now it runs very smooth
- The walkera 0701 Tx has a habit of producing very severe glitches every five minutes :(.
Therefore exchanged the Tx and Rx with a second hand Futaba 8U or FF8 (with the swash menu and full GY401 support).
Need a reasonable radio anyway, so that's a good investment.
- Moved the rudder servo to the tail with a homemade bracket of allu.
bend the empty servo frame pieces sideways and the Rx holder in a down angle to make room for a 2200 Mah lipo in T-rex style.
Put the Rx to the back of the battery tray and the ESC to the front underneath the battery.
resulting in a good center of gravity.

It flies! :D

Also bought the Phoenix simulator and spend many hours practising.
Watched only 3D heli movies, thanks to the Szabo family for showing a level i will never reach :D.
very tempted to buy another heli though, and this certainly will not be my last heli :), but till now it only brought me fun and i learned a lot of important heli stuff.

My wife thinks i'm nuts, doesn't say it though , she started it....
This hobby rocks!

Hi
Did the same with my 37 rocksolid now !
Can you tell me about finless not heard of that (or him/her !)
Did all my mods off my own back.
Wife is now understanding what its all about (when she went on the sim)

Cheers

Hi John,

I also did the mods from my own back
And my wife has tried the sim already, but she gave up after fourty crashes or so :D
She understands it must be a great feeling when you can do some neat stuff like flips and loops and return the heli to a spot you like to have it, she hates it i can do that LOL(in the sim that is :? ).

Uhh Finless is like a institute over here he has his own forum on this board,
I looked at many videos made by him, especialy the T-rex ones.
Although they are not Walkera related, the info is heli related so VERY usefull IMO.
:)

Nice to hear you got it solid too!

Eric

I have a walkera DF#4 and it glitches like crazy. I traded and swapped transmitters and crystals around with no serious luck. I purchased a new transmitter and it seemed to glitch less but still glitches in mid flight.
I have replaced the transmitter, crystals, antenna is securely soldered.
Hope the receiver is good still. I have a buddy that bought the same heli from the same store and his glitches also.

Any suggestions please?!!

I also have a dragonfly 36. The only thing I don't like about it is that there is no tail compensation for when I hit the throttle. In other words, when I hit the throttle, the tail swings away much like the 4 channels do.

Anyone have any idea on adjusting the heli to automatically adjust the tail when the throttle is hit?
