Anyone have any experience with the SD-G flywheel for the O.S. .50? How true do those hubs run?

they are not really any better or worse than the standard hub - maybe a bit lighter?

They add "performance" to the bling factor

What I meant was, how close to zero runout are they? Since it's a slip-fit and not able to be dial indicated, it relies on Hirobo's accurate machining. I just want to know how accurate Hirobo's machining is.

Yes, no better and no worse than the standard alloy hub (which you also cannot dial as it screws onto the crank). The are both perfectly acceptable from a runout point of view.

I have a screw-on fan hub, but no matter what I do, I can't get the runout less than about .007. I certainly hope Hirobo can do better with the SD-G hub!

The hub is out .007? That's pretty surprising. It's been my experience with Hirobo heli's that the hubs were in pretty good shape when it came to acceptable runout numbers. The clutch was what sometimes took a little work. Have you contacted Jeff Green about your hub?

I bought the bird used, so I figured there was no point in me calling Jeff about it. I just figured that's what happens when you get a screw-on fan.

I did, however, take the time to dial in the clutch shaft. Got the runout at the tip under half a thou, and it made the machine much smoother.

(I should say that i have two fans... one stock screw-on, and another fan that was specially modified to accept tapered collets. The second fan is the one I use primarily, and it's easy to get it within .001 or so.)

So, has anyone actually checked their SD-G hubs to see what kind of numbers they get?

i found that some times the washer under the fan need to be filed some to remover any burs from being stamped out at the factoryfrom os . have found that this had made the hub sit flat and you should be able to get the run out right with both fans and hubs, i have both , and i have found that the blue still has somer play be fore you tightin it up , hope this helps ,
