I just thought I would let folks here know that landing too fast in normal mode is inviting Boom strikes. As soon as you can use idle up mode! And keep those blades tight. I learned this the hard way hehe . ( Think this mostlly applies to trex and bigger helis)

I'm not sure I buy into landing in idle-up mode. Not that it cant be done, I just land in normal mode (until I get more auto practice anyhow).

it's much easier to land in idle up as the head speed doesn't deteriate as you lower the pitch. just DON'T go to full neg on landing!!! hit hold. as soon as you are able start to auto even from 6". learn to auto as soon as possible, i have saved a lot of money knowing how to auto. ron

What Hotwings said.
I am almost never airborne in normal mode.
I start and spool up in normal and switch to Idle up before leaving the ground.
I always give just a tiny bit of negative also before takeoff as a double check that I am in idle-up and that the gov is working.
The only time I land not in Idle-up is when I am doing an auto.
