Hi All,
I am brand new to heli's. I have been building and flying fixed wing planes for a dozen years or so and although I have always wanted to try heli's I have been put off by the "Oh, it's just too hard to learn.." "It's too expensive.." "You will smash it within a few seconds..." type of remarks. However, I have been using some of my "planks" for aerial picture taking and realise that the best platform for a camera has to be a helicopter....no runway needed, can hover in one place etc, etc.
So, I came across a G2 sim and after a while started to get the hang of hovering and funny enough found nose in flight much easier than tail in! Just last weekend I took a trip to Calgary to Model Land and dumped a whad of cash down.
After getting the heli home I was pretty shocked with the lack of instructions. The manual is more of a parts catalog showing exploded views of all the various parts. Talk about bags and bags of parts, there was plastic bags all over my floor with anything from the frame sides to tiny set screws and lots of parts that looked pretty funny in shape :)
I thought it would be fun and perhaps useful to other noobs to start a build thread along with some good pictures. The other thought was perhaps seasoned builders/pilots could tuck me under their wings (or rotor blades) and give me some pointers, help etc.
Before I go much further, just tell me if this is a waste of time and I'll quit right now.
Also, I found a tremendous resource in http://www.raptortechnique.com/ which is a must visit!!
So here is a few pictures to start with that could aid any complete noob along with the instructions found on Raptor Technique that I printed off and use hand in hand with the TT manual.
As I said, if this has been done before and not needed just say the word. Maybe, someone might be interested in following my project from opening the Raptor box to the first flight. I shall keep this easy reading, good pictures and hopefully sprinkled with some humour along the way.
BTW, my name is Mike, I live in Fort Macleod, Alberta Canada.....famous now for the movie "Broke Butt Mountain" but we'll keep that out of this build...haha. 44, married with a son in grade 12 (my in house computer wizzard), 3 cats that I have no claim on :badair: a mother in law who is OK in her place but sadly it has not been dug yet!!
Cheers
Mike
