PCM is better in my opinion and yes Futaba does make a mini PCM receiver. If you will want to use it in larger helis later the PCM will allow you to set up a failsafe in the event of a loss of signal. This will make it safer to the people and objects around the flying area.
As for the 7CHP, it is a good radio but it will be difficult to add a governor for a nitro heli. For that you will need an 8 channel. Other than that it will work fine. That is what I started with. My suggestion would be a 9C instead. You will have all the channels that you will need and the transmitter will accept a synthisized module to allow ause with more than one channel. There are many of these for sale used since the introduction of the 12Z.

The 7chp can be used with a governor very easily. If you aren't using reomte gain on the gyro.

Even in florida that adds up to 7
The 7ch will do either ppm or pcm (they both use FM), its all in the reciever that ships with it if you buy it as a set. The 146iP is a good reciever for the small trex style helis but its range is limited to 300 yards or so.

Agree with BarracudaHockey, both are FM recievers
However PCM is less prone to noise / glitches.
With a 9C you also have a fail-safe function. Nice feature should anything go bad.

I didn't say it couldn't be done, just that it would be difficult. You would have only basic governor function. You would not have remote gain or be able to use a switch to turn it off. The 9C allows you full use of the governor that you are paying for and offers many more programming options than the 7C. Both will work but in my opinion you get more for your money with the 9C and the price for one of these is getting very attractive since the 12Z has arrived.
