is it worth the $$ to order the optical sen. from heliproz for the TJ?

Thx Dan

I'm no expert, but I can tell you what I have experienced.

I have had one R60 with TJ and Optical Sensor and one R60 with GV1 and Optical Sensor.

The magnet and HAL sensor works unless it is broken. The optical sensor can yeald some unpredictable results especially with a GV-1.

I will probably get flamed for saying this, but it is just what I have experienced and Shannon has also been there and seen. Since I went back to HAL sensors only, I have had ZERO more problems.

Just my 2cents worth...

My 2 cents.... if you setup the optical it normally isn't a problem. I sell kits on helidriver.com for $16.00 for main parts to build two sensors, they work worth either the GV1 or the TJ/TJPro.

I've got over 500 sensors in the field for over two years, if there was a problem I'm certain I would have heard more about it.

The trick is to get the sensor close to the fan, don't have stripe too wide and have the sensor as inboard as possible. Some people even go one step farther and put a large piece of 3/4" heatshrink tubing around the sensor and shrink it slightly to create a hood. I've not found that to be necessary in my experience but your mileage may vary.

I used to run an optical on the GV-1. I experienced alot of overspeeding. When I went back to the magnet, no more problems.

But now that I am flying TJ's, I still use the magnet and everything works flawlessly.

For some more anecdotal comments, I use the optical sensor with my TJ and it has worked flawlessly, first time and every time. I've had no sun problems, as others have.

The only reason i went optical was i had troubles with a magnetic sensor system on a previous governor, but i suspect all the problems were due to the governor itself, not the magnet. The magnet probably works fine as well, i just wanted to try the optical, and it also works well.
