I have g3 sim and have been practicing it for two months now and I just love flying the ion-x on the expansion pack.I modified it alittle to be more 3d freindly. All I did to modify the ion-x was increase the headspeed up to 1900,increased the heading hold rotation rate to 543,lowered the heli mechanics weight to 5.1lbs and I am using sab 700mm blades. Can the ion-x really fly this good?I have learned alot from g3 and can fly pretty good now.I can do all sorts of manuevers.whether it be inverted hover inverted f, inverted b,ff,upright backwards tic tocs ail+ele, rolls flips and piro flips and all the funnels.I am getting my first heli next month and I am getting a t-rex 450se but I know I am going to want something bigger and more stable and if the sim flys like the real one then I am deffinitely going to be getting a ion-x sometime too.Can the real Ion-x be fiddled with to do 3d better than this? How do they compare? Thanks

maybe not THAT light  now with the evo 20's that are out now they are more like 10lbs 1/2

The stock configuration in G3 is pretty close in my experience.
If you find it "sluggish" or not performing to your expectations in stock form I would look elsewhere for an electric helicopter. :D
Wait for the Razor to hit the streets.

I find the G3 Ion to be pretty lame compared to my NEU setup which I still feels needs more Jam as well. If the G3 is what the stock Hacker setup is thank god I didn't try that first or I would have been really depressed.

Assuming your 5.1lbs is w/out batt's? I am about 10.2 with Evo's and 11.8-12 with TP8K's.

Stock Ion_X G3 - flies pretty close to my Neu 1521 setup - a bit less power (Evo 3700's) but other flight dynamics are pretty close and much better than most of the HELI's on G3. Once you can invert hover your Rex 450 in "RL" - the ION-X in "RL" will be a walk in the park - as you probably already know :D

I should have clarified, yes the flight characteristics are similar yes, power no.

So the "RL" ion-x flys very similar to the sim version minus a few hp?What I really want to know is if the "RL" ion-x can be made alittle more 3d freindly like the one on g3 with the modifications that I did to it as I posted in the begining. The ion-x is pretty expensive loaded up with batteries and chargers so I want to make sure I am going to be able to fly it like I want.If the ion-x can fly like the sim with the modifications I listed above then I will end up getting one.If it can't then I will just wait and get the smaller razor 600e Cause from the video's it sure looks like it is one heck of a whipper snapper:)

Simply I don't think so.
What you have setup is probably more like the new MXR electric than an Ion of any kind.
The Ion for the most part requires smooth very FAI like 3D flying to perform really well in my opinion.
It is not a high horsepower sticks to the corners machine on any setup in my opinion.

It flies better in real life as far as I am concerned. I truly agree on the FAI stlyle comment. The Ion imho is not a 3D monster either. I fly Logo 14s for my 3D craving and the Ion is a nice finish the day of flying heli, nice and smooth and so fourth, but it is not a hard core banging machine, not on 10S that is for sure. 12S has not been proven out enough yet and the drive train work has not been made solid ,,, yet but once it is I can bet that the 12S setups and up ie: (14S) will be everything and more that most will desire. All imho of course.

Have you seen my 32-3 Ion at the hands of HC and Marcus Kim in our video forum? Higher performance than I have seen from any other 90 sized E-Machine.

Well I got a few more videos downloaded and the two that I like the most are:Chatti06MattBotosIon-X_0001 and BSIon-XEvo205s1pTest_3-5-06-2 .I think the ion-x is what I am looking for besides the little rex...Big Stable and enough agility to do everything I need.I have watched about 15 ion-x videos some of them seem heavy while others seem alittle more agile and some alittle more power. Looks to me like it has alot to do with how well the pilot can use enertia to fly the heli and how well the pilot can use collective. That is one thing I have noticed with the sim Ion-x it makes me use the collective and enertia alot more than say the 50 and 90 nitro birds kind of like a 30 nitro just bigger.I don't want to keep bothering you guys with all my questions being that I don't even own a heli yet just the transmitter.I got that a couple weeks ago a jr 10x.My first big step into flying helis.I think the lipo and motor technology will be alot better next year with the new ma razor, and t-rex 600 being out.So maybe next year the motors will be more powerful and efficient and the batteries will be lighter and last longer.Thank all of you for your input I appreciate it.Now get back to flying your Ion-X and keep posting your configurations and flight test so I can get the best of the best when I get mine :D

Will,
Yes I have and I could say the same thing about a half dozen other pilots I know flying the Ion-x on 10s.
The key to those guys is the flying style/ability not the machine.
Russ up here can make a Raptor 30 fly like a nice 90 sized machine in my opinion along with his Ion's. :D
Your "average" 3D pilot will find the Ion-X lacking in the 3D world.

Speaking of G3 and the Ion-X --- how do you get he head speed to record accurately? Mine in the nav guides shows at 9K PRM?

that would be the motor rpm
