Hi Guys,

I asked this question on RCGROUPS but thought I might getsome more help from you guys...

This is my first thread on this AP forum so please be gentle
I have learned to fly on a Corona and have now graduated onto a TREX SE that I am really enjoying flying....Now whilst I have considered the possibilities fo using the REX as an AP ship I think I need something bigger to give me more options so I have been looking at the LOGO range. Forgot to say that an ASKMAN AP mount is a given and I will definitely be getting one of those.
So...there are quite a few different LOGOs eh! 10, 14, 16, 20, 24(Bionic) and even within the 10's there seems to be normal, deluxe, 3D, Carbon....whats going on there? The Deluxe LOGO 10 which sells for about $219 seems like a really good price but then I looked at the CF version and that like double the price..is that right and almost as much as a 14 which is carbon anyway yeah?
Well there you go...how confusing is that.....
Would appreciate some advice from you guys as to what t go for...I have pretty much made up my mind on a LOGO just because of their pedigree really and the next best would probably be a Joker but that is pushing my wallet.
I would like to get the heli and get used to flying it first and then get the AP mount and load it with a weight and learn on that and ideally I want to buy once and not need to upgrade motor and ESC etc. I have heard mention of a LOGO 10 Stretched to run 550mm blades being a good bet and I am guessing at a 1910/1.5Y as a good motor for that and a Jazz 50-10-32 ESC and running on 8S...How is this sounding so far? I will never want to use this for 3D or anything like that...I basically want to put together a really decent AP ship...Would also like to have flight times in the duration of 15 mins if possible...
Can any of you guys help me out with suggestions / warning / information....After really struggling to sell my Blinged out corona (which I have done now an very happy with the money which is now burning a whole in my "virtual" wallet) I would really like to buy once and not have to replace motor etc later on.
What do you guys think and where is the best place to buy? I am in the UK but happy to buy from US, Canada, Europe. Have had really good service from our friends over the other side of the pond so absolutely no worries about buying from over there if need be.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jam R

Unless you are planning to do video with a 3 lb HD video camera, I think one of the Logo 10 variants would work well. You don't need to go to the stretched 550 blade version for any of the point'n shoot cameras, and many of the newer ones are up to 10 MP and have better lenses.

The differences between the Logo 10 Deluxe and the Logo 10 3D are the latter has some extra bearings in the head, the hardened shaft, the aluminum swashplate, CF boom supports and CF fins. I believe it also comes with the CF blades. It also includes 3D dampners and lighter paddles, both of which are not desirable for AP work. The extra bearings, the aluminum swashplate and the hardened shaft are good, as they will help keep the head nice and tight, and vibration free, but these are not absolutely necessary for AP work.

The Logo 10 Carbon kit has all the same upgrades but, oddly enough, doesn't come with the CF blades. The big advantage here is there is a pretty good weight savings. The frames are also very rigid. All the Logos are very smooth but the L10 Carbon even more so, I think.

For power, there's lots of choices. In mine at the moment is a NM 1910-1.5 with a 20T pinion and an 8s-3700 FP Evo 20 setup. This has gobs of power, definitely overkill for a Logo 10, but with it I get nice long durations (13-15 minutes...) with the standard Askman AP mount and a typical point'n shoot camera. As soon as I get them in, fowever, I plan on switching to a Z-Power Z30-800. It is even more efficient in an 8s setup.

Hi there Gary....So..from what you are saying...get the deluxe 10 kit and maybe upgrade the shaft, swash and bearings..is that possible? Also, is there anyway to buy the CF frames seperately for the added decrease in weight?...The Carbon and the 3D do seem to be disproportionately more expensive than the deluxe kit..but maybe thats just to my novice eyes........Looks like I may indeed be coming your way when I am ready to order...when are you expecting those Z30 motors in?
Looking forward to doing some business with you
Thanks my friend

carbon frame kit is expensive too. if you are going to do that, you should just buy the carbon kit. frankly, stock deluxe setup will work fine for AP. I am looking forward to z30 motors myself. 800 should work great with 10S A123 cells.

OK...I will leave the carbon alone....can't blame a guy for trying.....I am assuming that the best way forward in terms of powering the camera and the radio gear would be to get another smaller LIPO pack and a step down regulator...is that the recommended way forward? How about the ESC....is the HV45 any good? would a Jazz or Schulze be better?

There is a carbon upgrade kit available (part number 0699...), but it costs about $270. I'd definitely go with the basic Logo 10 deluxe, to start. You can always upgrade later, if you wnat.

Most Logo 10 3D setups use something like a 6s-3700 Flight Power pack. To get a bit more in the way of durations for an AP/AV setup, you can simply move up to 8s setup, which is what I have done with mine. I also just made up a 10s a123 M1 pack, which should have about the same voltage as my 8s-3700 FP setup. These M1 cells are what is being used in the new DeWalt 36V tool packs. Like the eMolis, which come from Milwaukee v28 tool packs, these hold great promise for use in AP/AV setups, as they are very inexpensive compared to typical LiPo setups. The M1s have a few more advantages as well, not the least of which is that they are completely safe. You can't overcharge them, you can't over discharge them and they don't blow up, ever. The other main benefit is that if you had a charger big enough they can actually be recharged in as little as 5 minutes. With the currently available chargers, it is more like 15 minutes right now. In any case, with a couple of sets of these, I think you could pretty much fly all day. :) Once I do a few tests with these, I plan on starting a new thread here on their applicability for our AP/AV setups.

The Phx HV 45 is perfect for any of the Logo 10 setups. I haven't found anthing better, and they are half the price of the German offerings.

Gary,

Thanks for that info...I have heard about the emolis and more recently these A123 cells...Can you charge both with a LIPO charger? I am quite happy to start out with LIPO's to start of with although I will need to get a decent charger and balancer for the bigger packs..
Any idea when you are going to be getting in these Z30-800 motors....I think I am gonna go for one of your setups but would like to wait until these motors are available as they sound ideal...In the thread that Tony linked to earlier I see that you do a very good deal which looks excellent and maybe I can get the charger / balancer from you also...
Getting excited now...I am off on holiday from next Monday for 2 weeks so it would be perfect timing if you had the motors in when I got back and I could then get an order in!!!!
