Hi gang,
What is a good Brushless motor/ESC combination for a '300? I plan on using the Thunder Power 1320 Lipo's that I am currently using for my Blades for power. I currently use a Align 370 and with an E-Flight 20AMP ESC for an upgraded Blade that I have. Would this combo be suitable or should I go to something different?

Dan, the HDX300 is nice and light. The Eflight 20 is quite a bit heavier then a Castle 25, so if you want to try a different controller, I would go that route.
I know they recommend the larger battery for the brushless setup, but again, I'm hoping by keeping the weight down, I can make it go a reasonable time with the standard 800 or 900mah lipos. I'll only go up to the 1320 if absolutely needed.
Cheers!

Hi Lee,
What about the motor. An HDX300 or is there a better one available. I have easy local access (here in Canada) to the E-Flight product line if there is one that might do. In all the reading I have done The CC 25 seems to keep popping to the top of the list, particularly with the programming cable.
Thanks,
Dan

Dan:
E-Flight makes good quality stuff IMHO. I can't speak to the quality of the HDX300 yet, as I have not flown it. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks. ;) For $26.00 it's hard to go wrong.

I can speak to the quality of E-Flight motors , and that would be that they suck , I am currently using one , and have used them in the past they are pethetic when it comes to durability , the magnets come loose in a crash and the can doesnt come apart easily to reglue them. :bomb: they are expensive too , but they are all i can get around here in the right size , 370 3600 KV

Steve:
I've used the E-Flights on some planes, and they've been pretty good. I haven't tried them on the helis. I went the HDX300 route to save weight. I found the Himax motors pretty susceptible to banging around. They will let go. The Eflights seem to pretty similar in design. But I try really hard not to smack my planes in when I land. I think the Rexy gets a little more punishment, and the motor never gets to "coast".
Cheers!

Hacker e-37 3700kv, Dang thing has too much power i think, ive got the max throttle at 70% and it climbs like crazy. Going to drop a tooth on the pinion and see how well it works then, although the motor is only at 130F after 10 minutes of flight.

Hi Carlo,
I am going to be using a Park 370 Inrunner which I assume is a comperable motor to yours. I am running the same motor in my other converted "CP" (Almuminum Frame, Brushless of course, Gyro, aluminum boom, dual tail motors) and the thing has tons of power and I get about 20min+ on Thunder Power1320mAh power packs. The HDX is going to be considerably lighter so I should get at least comperable performance. The question is what pinion should I use in the HDX? I am using an 8 tooth in the old bird I am assuming that I should stick with an 8 tooth due to the increased load of driving the belt. I never counted the teeth on the HDX main drive wheel but at first blush it looks like a smaller diameter wheel that the standard CP. If that were the case should I go up a tooth or two to get sufficient head speed?

The Park 370 should be pretty close in performance to My hacker, the 4200 KV version may be a little more powerful. I am running a 10 tooth right now, too much IMO. I will downsize to a 9 tooth one of these weekends when I don't have 4 other Heli's to mod or fix. Of course testing is where it really all plays out, I may find that the 8 is a better fit for efficiency. I am not looking for ultimate power, but I would like to do FFF for 20 minutes or so on a 1320 lipo, if possible. I have a tach so it should be doable.
