A stupid question, but here it goes. What is with the metal washer like thing that the receiver wire is wound around? Does this thing serve a purpose? Should I leave it on or take it off? If take it off, is there an easy way to do it without damaging the connector? Why would they do this?

I'm new to this. Please explain. A filter? I thought it was just used to shorten the wires up or something. Never seen anything like this on my planks.

I've read where you want to use it in an FM radio system, but it's not necessary in a 2.4 system. I've never used the ring in any of my DSM2 installations and have never had a problem that I'm aware of.
